On Monday, September 23, 2024, the official website for the anime series Spice & Wolf season 2 confirmed that production is underway, following the airing of the season 1 finale. Unfortunately, no further details regarding the release date for season 2 were provided, indicating that fans may have to wait a bit longer to see new episodes.
Alongside the announcement, a stunning key visual for Spice & Wolf season 2 was released, showcasing Holo clasping Kraft Lawrence’s hand as they joyfully run through a field. Fans can expect more information about the upcoming season before the end of 2024, but it appears that the series will not premiere until 2026 at the earliest.
Anticipation for Spice & Wolf Season 2’s Premiere in 2026
Given the absence of a trailer for Spice & Wolf season 2, it seems production is still in the early stages. This suggests that the second season is unlikely to debut in 2025, particularly if it will follow the format of a two-cour run totaling 25 episodes, similar to the recently concluded first season.
However, if animation studio Passione prioritizes the sequel, a release window in mid to late 2025 could be possible. The production schedule may also be influenced by the availability of the main cast members during this time.
The first season of the Spice & Wolf anime premiered in April 2024 and ran for two consecutive cours, totaling 25 episodes. The series was streamed weekly in Japan on Crunchyroll, which also produced and released an English dub. This new adaptation includes several returning cast members from the original series, including Jun Fukuyama as Kraft Lawrence, Ami Koshimizu as Holo, and Mai Nakahara as Norah Arendt.
Returning staff include Takeo Takahashi, serving as chief director. Hijiri Sanpei directs the anime at Passione, while Kevin Penkin is slated to compose the series’ music, and ENISHIYA is credited as the producer. Takahashi previously directed the original two seasons, with Naruhisa Arakawa handling the scriptwriting. The first season aired from January to March 2008, and the second from July to September 2009, both released on home video by Funimation.
Spice & Wolf season 2 will continue the adaptation of the light novel series created by author Isuna Hasekura and illustrator Ju Ayakura, which began in February 2006 and is still ongoing. The light novels are published by ASCII Media Works under the Dengeki Bunko imprint.
