Spider-Man 4: Multiverse Rumors, Theories, & Everything We Know

Despite rumors of his departure, Tom Holland is not finished with the MCU and is expected to reprise his role as Peter Parker in the highly anticipated Spider-Man 4. Here is everything that is currently known about the upcoming film.

Tom Holland made his first appearance in the MCU as the amiable, neighborhood wall-crawler in Captain America: Civil War. He then went on to star in Infinity War and Endgame, in addition to his trilogy of Spider-Man films: Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home.

The most recent superhero film featured Holland uniting with previous versions of Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, to battle enemies from alternate dimensions such as Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard.

We can expect to see more of this version of Spider-Man in the upcoming slate of Marvel movies, which is fantastic news.

Spider-Man 4 Release Date

No official release date has been announced for Spider-Man 4. Unless there are any major surprises, it is expected to be released in late 2026 or possibly 2027 on the big screen.

The upcoming Spider-Man movie has been confirmed to be in the works. According to producer Amy Pascal, the film will feature Tom Holland as Spider-Man and will be a part of a trilogy. She also stated that this is not the end of their collaboration with Marvel, as they have plans for more movies in the future.

During a conversation with The New York Times, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that talks are underway between himself, Amy Pascal, Disney, and Sony regarding the next Spider-Man movie. He assured fans that there will be no separation trauma like what occurred after Far From Home, as they are actively working on developing the next part of the story.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly in February 2024, Feige also confirmed that the writing process for Spider-Man 4 was currently underway.

Cast

Peter Parker/Spider-Man will be portrayed by Tom Holland once again in the upcoming film, Spider-Man 4.

According to Deadline’s most recent update, Holland has played a crucial role in the early development of the project and has been actively contributing to creative decisions. This marks a significant change, as the actor had previously been secretive about his future involvement.

According to Fandom, he stated, “There is definitely a future for Spider-Man. I am uncertain of my involvement in it, but it has been an amazing journey thus far. If the time comes for me to retire from the role and pass it on to someone else, I will do so with pride, knowing that I have accomplished everything I set out to do in this franchise.”

With the potential introduction of Miles Morales in Spider-Man 4, there is speculation that this could serve as a perfect opportunity for the passing of the torch to the next generation. In order to do so, Marvel will need to cast an actor to play Miles Morales, most likely someone who is not widely known.

There have been recent speculations that Spider-Man 4 may feature more than one antagonist, and there is a chance that Thomas Haden Church may reprise his role as Sandman.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the events of No Way Home, it is possible that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon may not reprise their roles as MJ and Ned. This is due to the fact that their characters no longer have any knowledge of Peter Parker’s true identity.

Despite having directed the first three movies, director Jon Watts has made it clear that he will not be returning. He is choosing to step aside from his role.

What’s the plot?

Despite the lack of official confirmation, speculation suggests that the plot of Spider-Man 4 will involve the multiverse and a potential team-up between the web-slinger and Daredevil to take on Kingpin.

After the events of No Way Home, it is evident that the upcoming Spider-Man movie will have to deal with the aftermath of Peter Parker’s identity being erased. Spider-Man 4 is expected to follow this version of Peter Parker as he tries to rebuild his relationships with characters such as MJ and Ned.

Feige has also announced that Spider-Man will continue to lead the “street-level heroes”of the MCU, joined by another prominent character: Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil. It is speculated that this upcoming movie will draw inspiration from the Daredevil comic storyline “Born Again”and feature the heroic duo teaming up to face one of the most notorious supervillains, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.

Regarding Venom, it has been confirmed that a portion of the symbiote remained with Tom Hardy’s character, Eddie Brock, in the post-credit scene of No Way Home. While the outcome of Venom 3 is still unknown, it is likely that the symbiote will bond with a new host in the MCU timeline, rather than Hardy reprising his role as Brock.

Is it possible that we will eventually see black suit Spidey? Considering the connections between that costume and the original Secret Wars comic book series, it would be logical.

Despite not yet making an appearance in the MCU, Miles Morales, the protagonist of the Spider-Verse films, remains a highly anticipated character. According to a tweet from Culture Spider, Marvel intends for Miles to be Peter’s roommate rather than following the mentorship dynamic portrayed in the animated film and games.

According to recent speculations, the movie may be linked to the multiverse in a similar manner as No Way Home, although there is no official confirmation of this yet.
