Spider-Man 2, developed by Insomniac, has officially confirmed the cancellation of the anticipated story DLC, leaving fans heartbroken by this announcement.
Insomniac’s Spider-Man franchise has proven to be a phenomenal success, earning acclaim from both critics and players alike for its outstanding gameplay mechanics and immersive world-building.
The latest title in this acclaimed series, Spider-Man 2, achieved remarkable sales, moving millions of copies globally.
While fans recently celebrated the exciting news that the game is set to launch on PC in January 2025, this surge of enthusiasm was quickly overshadowed by the disappointing revelation that there will not be any post-launch DLC as many had hoped.
In the announcement regarding the PC version on the PlayStation Blog, Insomniac clarified that they have “no additional story content planned” for Spider-Man 2.
This news is particularly disheartening for players, especially considering that the first installment’s expansion, The City That Never Sleeps, was made available just one month post-launch. Expectations were high for a similar release schedule for the sequel, which ultimately did not materialize.
Many players expressed their frustration at the game’s narrative length, criticizing the developers for charging full price despite the shorter storyline compared to the original. One Reddit user stated, “This is disappointing. SM2 felt very brief and lacking in content compared to SM1. I was hoping for a three-part story DLC to make up for that. Without it, SM2 was somewhat of a letdown.”

Other players have even mentioned their intention to “finally remove the game” from their libraries following the complete cancellation of DLC hopes.
Nonetheless, Insomniac’s shift in focus from Spider-Man 2 suggests that they are moving full steam ahead on future projects, including the eagerly awaited standalone Wolverine title that encountered significant leaks in late 2023.
While Spider-Man 2 is preparing for its PC debut in January 2025, fans will unfortunately not see any extra story DLC for the game.
