Known for his versatility, Heo Seong-tae portrayed the two-faced character in “The Age of Shadows,”Dok-ja in “The Outlaws,”and Seo Tae-seok in “Casino.”His latest role as Jang Deok-soo in “Squid Game”has gained him international recognition and solidified his status as a beloved actor.
Despite the challenges he faced, Heo Seong-tae persevered to reach his current success. Previously, he had a stable job at a big corporation and lived comfortably. However, in 2011, just as he was on the verge of being promoted to company manager, he unexpectedly auditioned for SBS’s acting program called “Miracle Audition.”
Despite being 35 years old, Heo Seong-tae made the bold decision to become an actor, giving up his stable life and an annual salary of approximately 70 million won, which would be equivalent to over 100 million won ($72,000) in current times.
Although my mother initially criticized my decision to pursue acting, she is now proud of my determination. If I did not find joy in performing in front of the camera, I would regret my career choice. However, nothing brings me more happiness than being in front of the camera. This was evident when I received my first salary of 150,000 won (approximately $110) as an actor. Thankfully, as everyone is aware, the number of zeros on my checks has significantly increased since then.
Currently, Heo Seong-tae can be seen in the drama “Crash.”He portrays the role of Jeong Chae-man, the team leader of the traffic crime investigation team, in this ENA Monday-Tuesday drama that is nearing its finale. Despite being known for his powerful and menacing villain roles, Heo Sung-tae has managed to bring a distinct and interesting character to life in “Crash,”blending firm leadership with endearing humanity.
