Star Wars Outlaws is coming soon.
Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game will now be developed by Massive Entertainment, a Swedish developer. The studio first revealed its involvement in the project, code-named “Project Helix,”in 2021. For the first time in the franchise’s history, Star Wars Outlaws will offer players the freedom to explore the galaxy.
Massive has a strong track record of successful game development, including Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The studio has also contributed to highly acclaimed titles such as Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Far Cry 3, ensuring a solid gaming experience for your next adventure in the Star Wars universe.
Star Wars Outlaws: Release Date & Platforms
Star Wars Outlaws is set to launch on August 30, 2024. Early access to the game will be available on August 27, 2024 for those who pre-order the Gold or Ultimate editions or purchase a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription before the official release date.
The game can be accessed through Ubisoft Connect or the Epic Games Store on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, or PC.
Star Wars Outlaws Trailers
The official World Premiere trailer for Star Wars Outlaws was debuted at the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase event on June 11, 2023.
The Ubisoft Forward stream on June 12, 2023, showcased approximately ten minutes of gameplay.
At San Diego Comic-Con, Ubisoft revealed a behind-the-scenes trailer for Star Wars Outlaws that delves into the making of the game. The six-minute video provided additional details on the game’s characters and the various planets that players will be able to visit.
After the initial trailer, we were treated to another one, which revealed the release date and provided further details about the story.
The Summer Game Fest also featured a trailer showcasing additional gameplay, revealing new mechanics and locations not previously seen in other trailers. This included a glimpse of the vehicle combat feature.
The Ubisoft Forward event held on June 10, 2024, featured an array of gameplay footage that provided further details on the game’s narrative, gameplay mechanics, and open world design. The showcase also offered a first look at space combat and how the game will seamlessly transition between on-foot gameplay and vehicular scenarios.
Story details
Outlaws is set in the time period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in the Star Wars movies. In the trailer, we see players assuming the roles of protagonist Kay Vess and her trusty Axolotl companion, Nix, as they embark on a journey to become the most notorious criminals in the galaxy.
Throughout Star Wars Outlaws, you will encounter a mix of new and familiar characters. For example, Jaylen, who is based on Han Solo, will join the adventure, alongside well-known figures such as the Rancor and IG-11 combat droid. Fans will also be delighted to see the return of iconic series staples like Jabba the Hut.
Douglas Reilly, vice president of Lucasfilm Games, expressed his enthusiasm for the game by stating that Star Wars Outlaws will be the first open-world game in the franchise. He added that the action-adventure story will feature a mix of familiar and new characters and planets from the Star Wars universe.
Star Wars Outlaws Gameplay
The 2023 Ubisoft Forward Showcase showcased approximately 10 minutes of gameplay from Star Wars Outlaws. The footage focused on Kay Vess as she skillfully evaded bounty hunters on her motorcycle. The game will also include thrilling space battles and stealth gameplay.
The developers also hinted at the inclusion of a feature that would allow players to select from various dialogue options, thus granting them more control over their character’s path. This could involve influencing one’s reputation with specific factions, either positively or negatively.
During the 2024 Ubisoft Forward event, we had the opportunity to experience three distinct story missions, varying from levels requiring stealth to full-blown action. After that, we spent four hours exploring the open world and were reassured that it is on track to become the Star Wars game we have been dreaming of.
In addition to Outlaws, there were also new previews for Assassins Creed Shadows and the Avatar Frontiers of Pandora DLC. Summer Game Fest also featured presentations of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Gears of War E-Day, and Life is Strange: Double Exposure.
