Star Wars Outlaws: Release Date, Trailers, Supported Platforms & Additional Details

Massive Entertainment, a Swedish developer, has spearheaded the creation of Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game, previously known under the codename “Project Helix.” The game, titled Star Wars Outlaws, offers players the unprecedented opportunity to explore the galaxy fully for the first time in the franchise’s history.

Beyond Star Wars Outlaws, Massive Entertainment is also behind the development of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The studio’s impressive portfolio further includes titles such as Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Far Cry 3, ensuring that your upcoming journey in a galaxy far, far away is crafted with expertise.

Star Wars Outlaws officially launched on August 30, 2024. Those who pre-ordered the Gold or Ultimate editions, or obtained a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription prior to the release, enjoyed a three-day early access starting from August 27, 2024.

This action-adventure title is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC through Ubisoft Connect or the Epic Games Store.

Additionally, Ubisoft confirmed on September 25 that Star Wars Outlaws will also be available on Steam starting November 21, 2024.

Trailers

The official World Premiere trailer for Star Wars Outlaws debuted during the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase on June 11, 2023.

During the 2023 Ubisoft Forward event on June 12, approximately ten minutes of gameplay footage was showcased.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Ubisoft offered a behind-the-scenes trailer that delved into the game’s development, shedding light on its characters and exploratory planets.

Another trailer release revealed the official release date and more insights into the storyline.

The Summer Game Fest showcased yet another trailer featuring gameplay elements, including exciting new mechanics and locations not previously revealed, such as vehicle combat.

During the Ubisoft Forward event on June 10, 2024, further gameplay was revealed, highlighting the story, mechanics, and the functioning of the open world. Space combat was also briefly showcased, including how players transition between on-foot action and vehicular segments.

Story Details

Star Wars Outlaws is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Players will assume the role of Kay Vess, alongside her Axolotl companion, Nix, as they navigate their path to becoming the galaxy’s most wanted criminals.

Throughout the gameplay, players will encounter new characters, such as Jaylen, who is reminiscent of Han Solo, and meet familiar figures like the Rancor and IG-11 combat droid, as well as iconic characters like Jabba the Hutt.

Douglas Reilly, vice president of Lucasfilm Games, expressed excitement about the game, stating, “With Star Wars Outlaws, we’re thrilled to deliver the first truly open-world Star Wars game, featuring an action-adventure narrative filled with both new and beloved characters and planets from the Star Wars galaxy.”

Star Wars Outlaws Gameplay

The Ubisoft Forward Showcase highlighted around ten minutes of gameplay, showcasing Kay Vess racing against bounty hunters on her motorcycle. The game will include thrilling space combat and stealth mechanics.

Developers teased the implementation of different dialogue options, allowing for player agency and the ability to influence their standing with various factions.

At the 2024 Ubisoft Forward event, players experienced three distinct story missions, spanning stealth and intense action, followed by four hours exploring the open world, leaving us optimistic that this is the Star Wars game fans have longed for.

In addition to Star Wars Outlaws, new footage was revealed for Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora DLC, as well as titles like Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Gears of War E-Day, and Life is Strange: Double Exposure during the Summer Game Fest.
