Seagate has already released a couple Star Wars-themed external hard drives, which are ideal for storing everything from Word documents to Death Star plans. The business has also showcased internal Star Wars SSDs.
Seagate has released a new FireCuda NVMe SSD series with customizable faceplate designs inspired by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker. Each plate features the character’s name along with a glowing image of their lightsaber from the movie and television shows. SSDs with embedded illumination are nothing new, but these drives offer a Star Wars twist. The faceplate mechanism also works as a passive heatsink, keeping the SSD cool and reducing thermal throttling.
Going on to the technical specifications, Seagate claims that the drives support PCIe Gen 4 and have sequential read rates of up to 7300 MB/s. Based on that, it appears that the drive is a modified FireCuda 530, which has promised sequential write speeds of 3,000 MB/s for the 500 GB variant, 6,000 MB/s for the 1 TB model, and 6,900 MB/s for the 2 TB and 4 TB models. According to Seagate, the Star Wars drives will only be available in capacities of up to 2 TB, but will come with a five-year limited guarantee.
The Lightsaber Collection FireCuda SSDs will be available for purchase beginning today. The one-terabyte disk costs $185, while the two-terabyte drive costs $290. A lightsaber drive in your PC costs quite a bit more than that – a normal 1TB FireCuda 530 from Seagate costs roughly $110.
