The Star Wars universe continues to grow, its distant galaxy expanding ever further to the delight of fans. Every year, a myriad of new content is offered by Disney, between streaming series and new feature films expected in theaters.

If the Skywalker family has long been in the spotlight, The Acolyte series promises a completely different story. It is in a new timeline that spectators will be transported, well before the events of the famous prelogy.

The Acolyte will begin streaming on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, as recently confirmed by the Star Wars X/Twitter account.

Filming on the series began in October 2022, but production was impacted by delays resulting from the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023. The situation has now been restored and the series is on track for release on Disney+.

Star Wars: The Acolyte plot details – what will the series be about?

Star Wars: The Acolyte will offer a story in a completely new timeline, since it will take place more than a century before the events of the prelogy films, and will largely focus on the Sith.

When announcing the casting, Disney+ presented the series with this summary: “”The Acolyte” will play the thriller and mystery card. In the final days of the High Republic era, as dark secrets tarnish the galaxy and a number of dark side forces emerge, a former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes. But the powers they face turn out to be much more formidable than expected…”

Taking into account the targeted period and the series’ interest in the hereditary enemies of the Jedi, we can expect a possible appearance of Darth Plagueis, Palpatine’s master, although nothing has yet been confirmed by the studio at the moment.

Star Wars: The Acolyte cast: who will star in the series?

Lucasfilm recently confirmed the main cast of The Acolyte, which you can find below:

  • Rebecca Henderson as Vernestra Rwoh

According to Variety, the two male leads will be played by Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae and The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto.

We will also have to count on Amandla Stenberg, one of Hollywood’s rising stars, but her role is currently unknown. At this stage, only the character Vernestra Rwoh is known to the public, and will be played by Rebecca Henderson.

As for the creative team, spectators will be able to discover the work of Leslye Headland, already at the helm of the Russian Doll series on Netflix.
