Starfield players excited by the arrival of mods: the game will finally “take off”

Changes to Starfield’s source code have led some players to believe that the long-awaited Creation Kit 2 mod tools could be arriving soon.

Since the launch of Starfield, players have been patiently waiting for Creation Kit 2 modding tools to roll out. Bethesda hasn’t shared many details, although the 2024 roadmap has confirmed the official arrival of the mods.

Now, a Starfield source code update has convinced some fans that the tools will be available soon. And it looks like closed testing for these tools will begin soon.

Starfield update sparks excitement for Creation Kit 2 mods

As spotted by Reddit user TERAB1T, the Steam changeslist for Starfield has been updated with new source code branches. The changes show that a Creation Kit beta is in the works for the BGS Verified Creators Program.

This suggests that Verified Creators might not have to wait long to get their hands on official Starfield modding tools. However, without an announcement from Bethesda, it’s unclear when exactly the Creation Kit 2 features will be made available to everyone.

Regardless of the specifics, responses to the Reddit post indicate that Starfield players are excited about this news.

One hopeful player says: “Super excited for CK. Starfield has a lot of gameplay systems, but lacks content to fill out those systems. I can definitely see the mods adding hundreds of new locations, ships, planets, and radiant quests to flesh things out…”

Another person added: “FINALLY! I was waiting for this. Bethesda games always take off after the CK release.”

Finally, a user who dropped Starfield said the Creation Kit could bring him back to the RPG. “Finally… We’re getting closer to playing this game again lol,” he commented.

Given the changes to the game’s backend on Steam, Bethesda may have more to share about Starfield soon.
