On January 9, Starship Entertainment encountered significant backlash after sharing a troubling fan-generated post on its official Weibo account. The content included derogatory remarks aimed at IVE’s Yujin, alongside AI-generated images intended to ridicule her.
The shared message contained offensive labels like “sl*t” directed at Yujin, escalating outrage among her fanbase. One particularly inflammatory caption read, “#JangWonYoung good baby. #AnYujin sl*t that loves kissing old men,” sparking urgent concerns about Starship’s responsibility in endorsing such damaging narratives.
Fans responded with dismay, with one expressing their frustration: “Isn’t Starship a crazy b*stard? What are they doing? They’re RT-ing an AI photo made by a hater on the official account. What do they mean by that? Is their head filled with poop? Is this what a human would do?” This incident left many questioning whether it stemmed from a lapse in judgment or mere negligence, especially considering that Weibo requires users to confirm their posts twice before sharing.
It was reported that the controversial repost was created by an admirer of IVE’s Wonyoung, known colloquially as a “Wonyoung akgae,”a term indicating fervent solo fans of the artist.
In light of the uproar, Starship Entertainment promptly issued a public apology hours later, recognizing the severity of the situation.
