Charging the Steam Deck, a hefty handheld, may not seem like a daunting task, but it can be a bit inconvenient. Unlike the Nintendo Switch, the Steam Deck’s charging port is located on the top of the device instead of the bottom. This can pose a problem when trying to charge the console while also protecting it. The protective hard case provided by Valve only allows the Steam Deck to be placed in one specific position, matching the molded outline of the device inside the case. The Reddit user deviated from Valve’s intended placement of the Steam Deck in the case by flipping the handheld 180° in order to safely plug in the USB cable. By positioning the charging port on the opposite side, they were able to thread the charger through the zipped edge and charge the Steam Deck while it remained securely in the case.
While it may seem like a simple solution, this clever hack allows your Steam Deck to be both protected and charging simultaneously. The only potential downside is the risk of damaging the sticks, as they were not designed to be stored in this manner. We suggest not fully zipping up the case when attempting this hack.
