Steam Deck modder reveals unique way to massively increase storage by 15TB

A modder for the Steam Deck has discovered a method to increase the device’s storage capacity by over 15TB without significantly increasing its weight.

The Steam Deck, known as the most widely used PC gaming handheld thus far, has been restricted by Valve to only offer a maximum of 1TB storage upon purchase.

Changing the storage drive to a larger option is a simple task, however, most compatible SSDs have a storage limit of only a few terabytes.

A modder for the Steam Deck has discovered a method to increase the storage capacity of their device significantly, without adding excessive weight in the process.

In a post on the Steam Deck subreddit, modder AC2334 shared that they had designed a pack for their device’s back that increased their storage capacity to more than 15.5TB.

The OP discovered a one-of-a-kind mount that allows for easy attachment and detachment of the kit from the Steam Deck. They shared in a photo gallery that the mount only adds less than a pound to the 1.5lb weight of the Steam Deck.

A photo of the file manager on the Steam Deck was posted, revealing a total of over 15.5TB of storage space available for game installations.

Undoubtedly, this will further decrease the already limited battery life of the handheld, so if you plan on creating a similar setup, be prepared to use your Steam Deck while it is plugged into a power source.
