Livestreaming has become an integral part of content on TikTok, with numerous creators going viral for their engaging streams. But how do you actually start a live stream?
If you’ve spent time scrolling through TikTok, you’ve likely come across live streams on your For You Page.
While these streams provide a unique opportunity for popular creators to engage with thousands of viewers simultaneously, they aren’t exclusive to major influencers.
However, there are specific requirements that need to be met for a user to initiate a live stream on TikTok, including age restrictions and follower count.
Requirements to Livestream on TikTok
To qualify for going live on TikTok, your account must fulfill the following two criteria:
- Have at least 1,000 followers.
- The user must be at least 18 years old.
If you meet these standards, you should gain access to the livestream feature shortly, and if you’ve just hit the requirements, the option will appear soon.
Additionally, it’s essential to adhere to community guidelines during your live sessions.
Can You Livestream with Fewer than 1,000 Followers?
Yes, you can still participate in live sessions if you’re invited to join someone else’s stream who meets the follower requirement. Although the feature primarily supports accounts with over 1,000 followers, you can still engage in livestreams.
To join, simply enter the live stream and click the “multi-guest LIVE” button located next to the comment section. You’ll have the option to request to join the stream. Click this button and wait for the host’s approval.
Alternatively, ask the live host to invite you by having them click on the “multi-guest LIVE” button and then select your profile to send you an invite.
How to Start a Live Stream on TikTok
Once you’ve met the eligibility requirements to go live, the process is quite straightforward. Just follow these instructions:
- Open the TikTok app .
- Tap the plus button at the bottom center of your screen.
- Swipe left to select ‘Live’ from the bottom navigation.
- Choose an image and enter a title for your live broadcast.
- Tap ‘Go Live’ to kick off your stream.
Once you’re live, viewers can interact with you via live chat, facilitating instant communication. It also provides a platform for longer content, such as storytelling and vlogging.
Your viewers can send you in-app gifts, but ensure this option is enabled before you start streaming.
While the ability to go live isn’t available to everyone immediately, the threshold for access is relatively low and serves as a wonderful opportunity to connect with your audience.
