Steps to Turn Off Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2

With its use of various post-processing effects and letterboxing, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has a highly cinematic presentation. While these effects certainly contribute to its otherworldly atmosphere, some users may find elements such as chromatic aberration and film grain disorienting. If you wish to remove these effects in Hellblade 2, here is a guide on how to do so.

How to turn off Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2

In order to turn off chromatic aberration and film grain in Hellblade 2, you will need to make some adjustments to the Engine.ini file, adding a few lines.

  • First, open Windows Run by hitting the Windows and R keys together
  • Enter the following address, and press OK

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Hellblade2\Saved\Config\Windows\

Hellblade 2 Configuration location in Run
  • Here, open the Engine.ini file using a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++
  • Now, add the following lines at the bottom of the Engine.ini file

[SystemSettings] r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0 r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0 r.NT.Lens.ChromaticAberration.Intensity=0 r.FilmGrain=0

  • Save the file (Ctrl + S), and exit out
  • Launch Hellblade 2, and the image will be much sharper overall without both chromatic aberration and film grain

Comparison Screenshots

Even though it may not be evident in screenshots, it is noticeable that the absence of chromatic aberration results in a sharper image with clearer details, especially on smaller objects like surface rocks. Likewise, the film grain effect is no longer present in the presentation and there is barely any grain in the screenshot.

Additionally, I have shared the screenshots on Imgsli for your convenience. This allows you to utilize the slider tool and zoom in on specific details.

Restoring the Effects

To re-enable the effects, just follow the aforementioned steps and delete the added lines. Be sure to save the file after completing the process.

Furthermore, you have the option to eliminate the letterboxing effect from the presentation by employing a similar adjustment.

Although it is understandable that these effects contribute to the artistic presentation, it is crucial to provide players with some level of control over them. We hope that the developers will consider adding toggles in a future update.
