Steven Spielberg’s Son Shares That Renowned Director is a Big Call of Duty Enthusiast

The son of iconic film director Stephen Spielberg has revealed that his father is a devoted fan of the Call of Duty franchise, along with being an avid PC gamer overall.

In an interview with PC Gamer regarding the soon-to-be-released Lynked: Banner of the Spark, Max Spielberg discussed his father’s passion for gaming, specifically highlighting the Call of Duty series.

“He loves gaming; he’s the one that got me into it,” said Spielberg. “He plays games and is a significant PC gamer, so that’s kind of our bonding point as well. He’s like, ‘Hey, what’s good? What new Call of Duty should I be playing? Send me a list of the top five shooters, I’ll get ’em downloaded, and we can play ’em together when you come over to the house.’”

While this may come as a surprise to some, Spielberg has had a notable impact on the gaming industry. After the success of Saving Private Ryan, Spielberg ventured into video games and wrote the original Medal of Honor game.

Not satisfied with just that achievement, he collaborated with Electronic Arts on various projects, indicating that his enthusiasm for the gaming world remains strong. His film Ready Player One is another testament to this passion, showcasing a protagonist who navigates an expansive virtual reality landscape.

Max added that despite his attempts, his father remains committed to the PC gaming experience, preferring it to consoles and controllers.

“He loves Call of Duty; he enjoys the campaign. He’s really into story-driven games, and I’m always trying to get him to play Uncharted. You know, ‘It’s Indiana Jones, you’d appreciate this,’ but he’s always like, ‘I can’t do controllers; I only do keyboard and mouse.’”

Although Max Spielberg did not confirm any upcoming collaborations his father may have in the gaming industry, the enduring passion suggests there could be future projects.
