Strange asset defects surprise Pokémon Go players

Pokémon Go players have been left confused after many noticed a strange asset glitch affecting Slime’s evolution line and more.

As an ongoing mobile game, Pokémon Go is constantly updated to add new content like Pokémon models, graphics, and more.

Sometimes, unfortunately, these updates end up leaving the mobile game in a worse state than it was before. This can often lead players to encounter strange and sometimes frustrating bugs.

Now, Pokémon Go trainers have noticed a strange asset issue that has affected Slime’s evolution line and more.

Pokémon Go trainers notice missing assets for Slime and others

The asset issue came to the community’s attention via the TheSilphRoad subreddit, where several trainers posted about the issues surrounding Slime and Archduke of Hisui.

A British player made a post on the subreddit in the early hours of March 16, 2024, and asked if other fans had noticed a “Kalos asset issue.”

The author said: “I’m having problems with the assets of three Pokémon from Kalos: Colimucus, Muplodocus and Xerneas. The assets are not showing and I downloaded the assets in the settings.»

In their Pokédex, the template graphics for Colimucus, Muplodocus, and Xerneas were simply missing from the game. Even the silhouette templates were nowhere to be found.

The trainers in the comments corroborated that they had the same asset problem as the author. However, upon checking with friends, one claimed to have the problem while another did not.

Over the course of the day, more posts regarding this same issue populated the forum. Another trainer noted that the problem extended to Archduke, whose assets were all replaced with those of Archduke of Hisui.

A different post began gaining traction among fans after a user posted several screenshots showing Slime evolving into Archduke of Hisui.

Their post also confirmed that assets for Colimucus were completely missing from their game as well.

Some have speculated that the mobile game could attempt to pull assets for Hisui’s version of Colimucus and Muplodocus, despite them not being in the game yet.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear what exactly is causing this asset error in Pokémon Go. Hopefully, Niantic will roll out some sort of update to fix things for those affected.
