Sceptile Tera Raid type & expected moveset
Scpetile’s Dragon Tera Type makes it susceptible to Dragon, Fairy, and Ice-type attacks.
As Sceptile is a Grass-type Pokemon, it will receive a STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) bonus when using both Grass and Dragon-type moves. Therefore, it is wise to choose counters that have resistance or immunity to the Raid Boss’ most powerful attacks.
Sceptile’s moveset is anticipated to consist of any four of the following moves:
- Leaf Blade (Grass)
- Energy Ball (Grass)
- Outrage (Dragon)
- Earthquake (Ground)
- Focus Blast (Fighting)
- Brick Break (Fighting)
Remember that Sceptile is a versatile attacker, capable of using both Physical and Special moves. We will make sure to revise the confirmed moveset once the Tera Raid event is available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
You will be pleased to learn that Sceptile’s ability, Unburden, is rendered useless in battle against Raid Bosses. This is because Raid Bosses are unable to carry any Held Items, which is necessary for the ability to raise its Speed.
Best counters
Grimmsnarl
Grimmsnarl offers the perfect start to the battle with its Priority moves.
Despite Sceptile’s impressive base 120 Speed, Grimmsnarl’s ability to use Priority moves such as Reflect and Light Screen allows for them to be set up before the Raid Boss even makes a move. These moves can reduce the damage taken by your counters by 50% for five turns.
Furthermore, Parting Shot has the ability to decrease Sceptile’s offensive stats when Grimmsnarl is switched out of the battle. As the fourth move, Spirit Break can be used to not only deal significant damage, but also lower the Raid Boss’ Special Attack by one stage.
Alolan Ninetales
Alolan Ninetales provides offense, defense, and support.
The Alolan Ninetales, with its Ice/Fairy typing, is a highly effective way to counter Sceptile in battle due to its versatility. Its ability, Snow Warning, allows it to summon Snow upon entering the battlefield, giving a 50% increase in Defense to all Ice types. This added bulk makes it more resistant to Physical attacks.
Moreover, using the Held Item Light Clay can extend the duration of Aurora Veil from five to eight turns, effectively halving damage from Sceptile. This tactic not only benefits Alolan Ninetales but also provides longer endurance for your team during the battle.
Using Chilling Water is an effective way to decrease the damage taken from the Raid Boss’ Physical attacks by half. With Sceptile having a diverse range of Physical moves, Alolan Ninetales can quickly counter them.
The optimal offensive strategy for Alolan Ninetales is to first utilize the move Nasty Plot to raise its Special Attack stat by two stages, then follow up with the devastating Blizzard for maximum super-effective damage.
The hatters
Hatterene is the best attacker to use but also works as a support.
Using the move Draining Kiss, Hatterene can deal super-effective damage and simultaneously restore 75% of the damage inflicted if weakened by non-Dragon attacks. In addition, it has the ability to use Life Dew to heal both itself and its teammates by 1/4th of their maximum HP, proving to be a valuable asset in difficult situations.
In conclusion, Nuzzle is an excellent move for paralyzing Sceptile, allowing all party members to have a chance to increase their stats or set up protective barriers.
It should be noted that Sceptile’s Dragon-type moves have no effect on any of these counters.
