In Escape from Tarkov, patch 0.16 introduced the “Break the Deal”task, which challenges players to apply strategic sniping tactics by drawing opponents toward the scaffolding zone of the expanded industrial site in Customs. This quest requires players to stash items in four designated locations throughout the industrial area. While two of these items are supplied by the trader, you will need to locate the other two yourself to complete the assignment. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll walk you through how to successfully finish the Break the Deal quest from Ragman, including tips on sourcing a pack of 7.62x51mm ammunition, which can be particularly elusive.
Completing the Break the Deal Task in Escape from Tarkov
To fulfill the objectives of the Break the Deal task from Ragman, you need to stash the following items in designated spots within Customs:
- And DVL-10 Sniper Rifle
- A DVL-10 Magazine
- An ELCAN SpectreDR Scope
- A pack of any 7.62×51 NATO ammunition
Upon commencing the quest, Ragman provides you with a DVL-10 Sniper Rifle and a magazine. Be sure to retrieve these from the messenger. It’s advisable to unload the magazine before stashing the sniper rifle to avoid losing it if you stash them in the wrong order. You can stash the magazine first or detach it from the rifle prior to placing them.
The ELCAN SpectreDR Scope can be obtained from Peacekeeper at level 3, or alternatively, you may barter for it using two SSDs with Mechanic at level 2 if you’re at a lower level.
For the 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition pack, you’ll specifically need an unpacked version. These ammo packs randomly spawn as loose loot, making them relatively rare. It’s worth noting that they do not appear in airdrops or supply crates, which typically contain unpacked ammo. Finding this particular item is often regarded as the greatest challenge of the Break the Deal task, and we will discuss strategies for this later.
Location for Stashing the ELCAN SpectreDR Scope
To stash the ELCAN SpectreDR Scope, ascend the designated stairway adjacent to the industrial plant. Proceed to the far corner on the second floor, near stacked boxes, and place the scope there while utilizing the boxes as cover.
Location for Stashing the DVL-10 Magazine
On the third floor, navigate to the center of the scaffolding, specifically near a broken box. This is where you’ll stash the DVL-10 Magazine. Again, use the surrounding boxes for cover while completing this task.
Location for Stashing the 7.62×51 Ammo Pack
Once you secure your 7.62×51 ammo pack, head to the fourth floor and locate the nearest corner by the stairs where a single box is present. It’s important to note that this stash location is particularly exposed, increasing your vulnerability to Scav snipers or enemies positioned nearby.
Location for Stashing the DVL-10 Sniper Rifle
On the same level, you’ll need to stash the DVL-10 Sniper Rifle in the opposite corner from the previous stash. Fortunately, this spot offers considerable cover, making it a relatively safe choice.
Acquiring a 7.62×51 Ammo Pack in Escape from Tarkov
If you’re struggling to find a 7.62x51mm NATO ammo pack, consider visiting locations that are known to spawn ammo packs frequently. One of the closest areas to the Break the Deal quest is Stronghold. In the Scav room, you may discover ammo packs located on couches, beds, and tabletops. Be mindful that these areas may also yield other loot such as food items or valuable gear. Additionally, explore the second floor for further ammo pack locations atop boxes overlooking the railroad.
Given the variety of ammunition types in the game, it may take some time before you uncover any 7.62x51mm NATO packs. For players venturing outside of Customs, the Lighthouse map presents an excellent opportunity as there are numerous ammo pack spawns scattered across the water treatment facility.
Alternatively, you could complete quests that reward you with a 7.62x51mm ammo pack. At the same time you receive the Break the Deal quest, you may also get “The Good Times – Part 1” quest from Prapor, which offers two packs of 7.62x51mm M62 Tracer ammunition. This dual reward provides you with an additional opportunity to complete your stash in case of any mishaps.
Keep in mind that you cannot store ammo packs within secure containers, making your task of bringing them into Customs particularly perilous. Therefore, exercise caution and strategic play when you set out to complete this quest.
