Strategies to Defeat Sword Link and Acquire the Sword in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Although a sword isn’t Zelda’s primary weapon in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, she can still wield one. In Echoes of Wisdom, you can take control of the legendary Link for as long as your Might Gauge permits. In this heroic form, you have access to a Shield, Bow, Bombs, and, naturally, a Sword. Just remember, you need to unlock it first.

Where to Get the Sword in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The Sword can be unlocked by defeating Sword Link in the Suthorn Ruins.

The Suthorn Ruins serves as the first dungeon within the game, and you’ll get a chance to explore it during The Mysterious Rifts quest. After breaking free from imprisonment in the Castle and reaching safety in Suthorn Village, your goal will be to locate the Ruins.

The map marker directs you to a path northeast of Suthorn Village, which has been torn apart by a colossal Rift. To access your destination, traverse east through the forest to bypass this obstruction. Upon reaching the waypoint, interact with the glowing yellow circle to enter the Stilled Suthorn Forest. Ascend through the Still World to locate the entrance of the Suthorn Ruins.

You will face Sword Link soon after entering the Suthorn Ruins. As Zelda is unarmed, you’ll have to think outside the box to defeat Sword Link, but creativity is vital in Echoes of Wisdom.

You have a couple of strategies to approach this confrontation. One option is to summon creatures to distract Link, luring him to turn his back, allowing you to strike his weak spot. However, the quickest and simplest method is to utilize the abilities of your ally, Tri.

Sword Link heavily relies on his Shield during this encounter. With Tri, you can press ZL to aim at Link’s Shield, followed by X to seize it. By walking backward, you can wrench the Shield from his grasp, leaving him vulnerable to your attacks. Make sure to have some monsters ready to capitalize on Link’s defenselessness.

When Sword Link’s health drops to half, he will empower himself with a purple mist, heightening his aggression. Continue to steal his Shield or strike while he’s vulnerable from behind to successfully defeat Sword Link. After overcoming him, you’ll see his Sword protruding from the ground in the Ruins. Interact with the Sword to claim it for yourself.

How to Utilize the Sword in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Activate the Sword by pressing the up button to enter Swordfighter Mode. In this form, you can deliver powerful swings until the Might Gauge located at the top left corner is depleted. You can replenish this gauge by collecting the blue bubbles that float around you.

However, these bubbles are not scattered all over Hyrule, so be tactical with your transformations. They mostly appear in areas where the game encourages Sword usage. You can also restore the gauge with blue potions when you’re in a tight spot.

Wielding Link’s Sword significantly impacts gameplay in Echoes of Wisdom, providing Zelda the means to defend herself instead of depending solely on her Echo Minions. Some bosses, like the one found in the Gerudo Sanctum, become considerably easier to defeat with the Sword.

How to Upgrade the Sword in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Although you cannot upgrade the Sword immediately upon unlocking it, you will have the chance to do so as you progress in the narrative. After completing the Suthorn Ruins and exploring more of the Rift’s secrets, you’ll meet a character named Lueburry.

Lueburry was acquainted with Link before he was abducted by the Rift and had been providing him with weapons for his quest. Since the Sword you wield is a replica of Link’s, Lueburry can assist you in upgrading it. For the upgrades, you’ll need to gather Might Crystals.

You can receive Might Crystals as rewards for completing dungeons or find them hidden in chests throughout Hyrule. Take your Might Crystals to the large machine located in Lueburry’s House, northeast of Suthorn Village, and use them to enhance the weapons gained after defeating Still Links.

You can upgrade the Sword twice: the first upgrade costs 10 Might Crystals, and the second upgrade costs 20.
