Streaming Service’s Horror Movies for Kids Section Is Filled with Terrifying Films

Are you in search of some family-friendly movies to watch this weekend? It’s probably best to avoid Roku’s “horror movies for kids”section (unless you want to scare your children).

It’s no secret that horror movies and children are not a good combination – the presence of death, gore, scares, and explicit material make them unsuitable for young audiences.

There are certainly exceptions – like Wednesday, for example, which falls under the same genre while still being appropriate for children. This can also be said for numerous Tim Burton films and the popular 90’s favorite, Goosebumps.

It appears that Roku was not informed.

However, there are other frightening movies that could also potentially have a negative impact on your children’s mental well-being.

The Conjuring, Jeepers Creepers, Smile, Orphan, IT, and Texas Chainsaw are all films that are not suitable for family viewing. Most people would probably agree on this point.

Following the discovery of this odd category, a Roku user posted on Reddit to express their thoughts, stating, “These are certainly not suitable for children, Roku…

“Of the movies listed, only four could be considered kid-friendly horror, although they were not shown in my pictures.”

Someone replied, “I believe/hope they were referring to horror movies that center around and include children. If not, it’s probably necessary for them to start saving for therapy expenses.”

However, this statement is not entirely accurate as there are individuals featured in the screenshots who do not match this description. Additionally, a different Redditor noted, “That’s an odd classification in itself.”

A third person jokingly commented, “I make sure to play these videos for my three-year-old every night in his room on a large projector. He seems to absolutely adore them, as he always reacts with screams of joy and tears.”

“One person even made a joke, pointing out the amusing presence of a clown, a tree with a swing, and someone playing hide and seek.”

Fifth chimed in, “All Hallows’ Eve is definitely one of the best children’s movies. But let’s be real, it’s not exactly kid-friendly. It would probably result in some major therapy sessions.”

In summary, if your children are using Roku to watch TV and movies, it is advisable to steer clear of this category unless you want them to have disturbing dreams.

To find even more horror, take a look at the upcoming releases to look forward to in 2024.
