Street Fighter Film Director Search Continues After Losing Previous Filmmakers

Danny and Michael Philippou, the creators of the successful horror film ‘Talk to Me’ released in 2023, will not be helming the film adaptation of the popular video game series Street Fighter for Legendary.

In 2023, the news that Legendary had acquired the rights for a Street Fighter film and TV series came as a surprise to the fighting game community.

This would be the most recent live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise, originally slated to be helmed by the YouTube duo-turned A-list directors Danny and Michael Philippou, also known as ‘RackaRacka’ on the internet.

On June 17, it was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Rack

According to the Reporter, the brother’s departure can be attributed to scheduling conflicts. The Philippous family is now directing their attention towards their next project, ‘Bring Her Back,’ a film by A24 set to commence filming in Australia at the end of this month.

Capcom and Legendary had initially planned for the Street Fighter project to begin earlier, but due to this change, the director duo, who gained recognition for their own Street Fighter fan project eight years ago, will not be able to lead the production of the official film.

Just a week after I spoke with Street Fighter 6’s director and producer, Takayuki Nakayama and Shuhei Matsumoto, this news has been revealed. They were able to provide me with a small amount of information about the movie’s progress.

I got the chance to speak with Street Fighter 6’s director and producer at Summer Game Fest, who gave me a tidbit of information about the series’ upcoming movie adaptation.

Despite being unable to provide many details, they informed me that they had recently met with the film crew that morning. The translator reassured them that progress was being made.

The progress of the film has come to a halt, causing fans to feel anxious about its uncertain fate. Although there is limited information available about Legendary and Capcom’s plans for the movie, with Street Fighter’s diverse range of characters and exciting plotlines, there are numerous action-packed scenes that could potentially be adapted for the silver screen.
