According to a TenAsia report on April 26th, it has been stated that Young J, a dancer born in 1992, has yet to complete his national defense duties.
In 2011, Young J underwent his initial military service examination and was given a grade 3 due to abnormalities in his ankle joint. According to the criteria, an ankle angle of 18 degrees or higher qualifies for exemption from military service and allows an individual to become a social worker. However, the angle of rotation in Young J’s ankle was only 16 to 17 degrees, making him ineligible for exemption.
In both 2018 and 2020, he shared news of his enlistment and expressed gratitude on social media to those who had visited him, even though he ultimately did not end up joining the military.
During the latter half of 2020, he was admitted to a psychology hospital for a psychological evaluation and was diagnosed with conversion disorder and panic disorder. As a result, he chose not to join the military and began taking prescribed medication in the first quarter of 2021. He continued to visit the hospital for a month and reportedly last visited in March 2021.
According to his evaluation, Young J was determined to have a level 4 mental illness. As a result, he has been waiting for nearly three years without being assigned a place to serve. He is currently awaiting an exemption in July. According to the current military service law, individuals who have a level 4 physical examination and have not been assigned for more than three years after the decision will be exempted.
In the past, Young J faced allegations of engaging in sexual activity with a female dancer who was underage.
