[TRIGGER WARNING: Sexual Assault, Rape]
In the ongoing investigation surrounding NCT Taeil’s sexual assault allegations, K-media has uncovered a significant aspect that may explain why SM Entertainment has been diligent in providing updates about the situation.
On October 7th, the prominent K-media outlet Chosun Ilbo published an exclusive report indicating that the K-pop star is under investigation for allegations of quasi-rape.
According to South Korea’s criminal code, this offense occurs when an individual, either alone or with accomplices and equipped with a weapon, engages in a sexual act with a victim who is unconscious or unable to resist.
Following the transfer of the case from Seoul Bangbae Police Station, it is now being managed by the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office. However, as of yet, there has been no summons issued for the idol.
As per reports, Moon was indicted in June for allegedly sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman alongside two acquaintances who are not public figures. Notably, it wasn’t until August that they were called in for questioning—two months post-incident.
The investigation continues, and should Taeil be convicted, he faces a potential prison sentence ranging from a minimum of seven years to life, in accordance with Article 4, Paragraph 1 of the Act on Special Cases Concerning Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
As this narrative unfolds, both netizens and journalists are speculating whether the cautious approach of SM Entertainment in commenting on Taeil’s allegations is linked to these developments.
When approached for a statement on the matter, SM Entertainment merely responded:
“It’s difficult to comment on the matter because it’s currently under investigation.”
