Sukuna’s actions rendered a major Jujutsu Kaisen storyline meaningless

The Shinjuku Showdown Arc of Jujutsu Kaisen has primarily revolved around the intense battle between Ryomen Sukuna and the Jujutsu Sorcerers. As a result, the series has gradually rendered one particular storyline insignificant – the one concerning Tsumiki Fushiguro and Yorozu.

Despite the passing of both characters, the Kamutoke cursed tool could have preserved their storylines. However, Sukuna’s loss of the tool has jeopardized the completion of their stories. Therefore, the disappearance of the Kamutoke ultimately renders Tsumiki and Yorozu’s storyline futile.

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

Why does Sukuna discarding Kamutoke make Tsumiki and Yorozu’s storylines meaningless?

Despite being cursed and falling into a coma, Tsumiki Fushiguro, Megumi’s step-sister, was chosen by Kenjaku to participate in the Culling Game. Yorozu, a girl who was obsessed with Sukuna during the Heian period, was incarnated into Tsumiki’s body as part of the game. This surprising turn of events was well-known among fans.

Yorozu, who had returned to the living world after a thousand years, was determined to be of assistance to her beloved Ryomen Sukuna. She utilized her Innate Construction ability and made a Binding Vow to recreate Sukuna’s Kamutoke from the Heian period, tasking Uraume with delivering the cursed tool to the King of Curses once he had defeated Satoru Gojo.

Upon being given the Kamutoke, Sukuna immediately employed it in a battle against Hajime Kashimo and Mei Mei’s Bird Strike. However, when Hiromi Higuruma activated his Domain Expansion Deadly Sentencing, the replicated Kamutoke was taken away. What was unexpected was that even after Higuruma’s demise, the cursed tool did not revert back to Sukuna.

It can be verified that Ryomen Sukuna effectively lost possession of the Kamutoke cursed tool after being ensnared in Higuruma’s Domain.

Despite the progress made during Sukuna’s battle with Yorozu, the Kamutoke still held little value. Its effectiveness against Hajime Kashimo was minimal, serving only as a distraction. In the fight against Higuruma, it proved to be completely worthless as it was promptly confiscated.

The cursed tool’s presence was the sole cause of the battle between Uraume and Kinji Hakari.

Despite the cursed tool’s disappearance, it was ironic that Yorozu’s final words to Sukuna were to value and regard the Kamutoke as her own. As expected, Sukuna showed no concern for Yorozu and remained unaffected by the Kamutoke’s absence.

As a result, the entire narrative of Yorozu’s return to Sukuna after being incarnated in Tsumiki’s body lost its significance when the cursed tool disappeared. If the cursed tool had remained, the manga may have included a scene where Tsumiki and Yorozu could communicate through astral projection, with either Megumi or Sukuna speaking to them.

Despite the potential for such a scene to conclude the characters’ stories, it is clear from the progress of the story that the plotlines involving Tsumiki and Yorozu will be abandoned.
