Sukuna’s origins in Jujutsu Kaisen could be much more similar to Yuji’s than previously thought

Numerous theories have been created to explain the origins of Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ryomen Sukuna. Despite the limited information provided in the story, fans have extensively explored the series’ lore, carefully analyzing every small detail in hopes of uncovering the true identity of the Demon King.

However, instead of being distinct, the solution to this inquiry may be connected to the main character, Yuji Itadori. A prevailing theory has emerged among fans, proposing that Yuji and Sukuna may have had comparable origins. Furthermore, this could explain their uncanny similarities.

This article is based on speculation.

Exploring the Similarities in the Origins of Sukuna and Yuji in Jujutsu Kaisen

Although little is known about Sukuna’s origins, it is believed that he was once a sorcerer who delved too deeply into the dark arts. As a result, he transformed into a Curse and earned the name Ryomen Sukuna due to his immense strength and merciless nature.

According to the theory previously mentioned, details from the Sukuna vs. Kashimo fight and the Demon King’s conversations with Uraume were combined to speculate on Sukuna’s origins. During his confrontation with Kashimo, Sukuna declares that he was “born a Cursed, unwanted little wretch.”Additionally, he reveals to Uraume that he was compelled by his mother’s curse to consume a piece of himself, namely his twin.

After considering these facts, it is plausible that Sukuna was born as a hybrid of human and Curse. As a result, he may have been aware of his existence as a fetus and his Curse side may have driven him to consume his twin, as Curses typically consume human flesh.

In the Jujutsu world, Sukuna and his twin were seen as a single entity. However, Sukuna was mostly composed of Curse while his twin had more human qualities. When Sukuna consumed his brother, it was seen as a merging of the two, resulting in the Demon form he possesses today.

Now that this has been established, let’s turn our attention to Yuji. The revelation of the teenager’s origins not too long ago came as a shocking surprise to the entire fandom. It was discovered that he was born from the union of Kenjaku (as Kaori Itadori) and Jin (Sukuna’s twin). Furthermore, like Choso, Eso, and Kechizu, he was one of Kenjaku’s experiments and is known as a Death Painting.

Both Yuji and Sukuna (speculative) share the commonality of not being fully human at birth. This suggests that the source of Yuji’s extraordinary strength has been revealed.

Sukuna’s already existing half-Cursed form enabled him to evolve into the Demon King and potentially made the process of transforming into a Cursed Object easier for him.

Concluding Remarks

This theory joins the many other Jujutsu Kaisen theories that have been developed up until now. A few chapters ago, Yuji’s background was confirmed and it was also disclosed that Sukuna was aware of it, for the most part. However, there has not been much information revealed about Sukuna’s own origins.

Despite its relatively short time in publication, Gege Akutami’s series has already established itself as a true masterpiece, garnering widespread engagement and reach. As the supposed final arc continues to unfold, each chapter brings new and unexpected twists, showing no signs of slowing down.
