Six years after the untimely death of Sulli (Choi Jin-ri), her family has come forth to seek accountability from actor Kim Soo-hyun and director Lee Sa-rang (also known as Lee Ro-bae) concerning her role in the contentious 2017 film Real.

Sulli’s Family Speaks Out
In a poignant statement delivered to Hankook Ilbo on March 28, Sulli’s elder brother, A, offered condolences to the family of actor Kim Sae-ron, who has also recently passed away. He expressed, “Over these past six years, we have been engulfed in grief, yet we appreciate the support from many. However, the recent tragedy involving Kim Sae-ron has compelled me to break my silence, as it is relevant to our own circumstances.”

A has raised pressing concerns regarding the filming process of Real, particularly focusing on the inclusion of intimate scenes involving Sulli, which he claims were not documented in the initial screenplay.
Three Critical Questions Raised
In his address, A presented three vital questions:
- Inclusion of Bed Scenes
A asserts that testimonies gathered from staff members during Sulli’s funeral indicate that the bed scene with Kim Soo-hyun was not part of the original script. He is seeking clarity from Kim Soo-hyun regarding this matter.

- Use of a Body Double
He highlighted that a body double was present during the filming of Sulli’s nude scenes, yet the production team opted not to utilize this double, instead convincing Sulli to perform the scenes herself. A is demanding an explanation for this decision.
- Confusion Surrounding the Body Double
There were claims that the body double was ill during the shoot, but conflicting eyewitness accounts suggest that the double was indeed on set that day. A is urging both Kim Soo-hyun and Lee Sa-rang to clarify this inconsistency.
Mr. A concluded, “While we heard various claims at Sulli’s funeral, I am only inquiring about these three factually grounded questions. I anticipate sincere responses.”

Support for Kim Sae-ron’s Family
A shared that he has reached out to the Korean Association for the Prevention of Celebrity Suicides, expressing his solidarity with Kim Sae-ron’s family. He hopes they find peace despite the negative scrutiny from figures like controversial YouTuber Lee Jin-ho. Furthermore, he expressed a willingness to meet personally with Kim Sae-ron’s family to offer his condolences.
Kwon Young-chan, the head of the Korean Association for the Prevention of Celebrity Suicides, stated, “Although belated, we offer our heartfelt condolences to Sulli’s family once more, ” and urged the public to refrain from harassing Kim Sae-ron’s bereaved family with spiteful remarks.
Social Media Remarks
In the days leading up to this statement, Sulli’s brother has made several pointed posts on social media, seemingly targeting Kim Soo-hyun. On March 28, he stated, “Six years since my sister passed, six years of you treating her as your plaything… I hope you remain unbroken, as you should feel this pain for as long as we have.” His remarks sparked speculation and concern.

Earlier, on March 21, he referenced the film Real, responding to rumors regarding a past relationship between Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron. The film, which was co-produced in 2017 and included both Kim Soo-hyun and Sulli, has been criticized for its explicit content and is believed to have had a detrimental effect on Sulli’s mental health.
Post the filming of Real, Sulli reportedly decided to withdraw from acting entirely, subsequently seeking psychiatric help.
