Sullyoon Sparks Debate on Her Inclusion in ‘JangKaSull’ Visual Troika—NSWERs Stand Up for the Idol

The placement of NMIXX’s Sullyoon within the current generation’s “visual troika”has generated considerable discussion, yet dedicated NSWERs have promptly risen to defend the idol’s honor.

In the K-pop industry, a “visual troika”emerges in every generation.

For the second generation, the trio was “YoonA-Suzy-Sulli,”while the third generation saw “Irene-Jisoo-Tzuyu”take center stage.

For the fourth generation, the term “JangKaSull,”featuring IVE’s Jang Wonyoung, aespa’s Karina, and NMIXX’s Sullyoon, has been established.

However, on September 29th, netizens questioned whether Sullyoon truly merited her position within the troika.

Names such as ITZY’s Yuna, (G)I-DLE’s Miyeon, and NewJeans’ Minji began to emerge as contenders more deserving of the title, given their superior popularity and visual appeal compared to Sullyoon.

According to the Brand Reputation Index rankings, Karina and Wonyoung topped the list at No.1 and No.2, respectively, while NMIXX’s Sullyoon fell to 47th place, far from the top 10.

Some fans are also questioning whether her extraordinary beauty alone is sufficient to secure her spot, especially given her viral photos that have sparked a debate about the authenticity of her natural beauty.

  • “JangKa is ranked first and second in brand reputation, but Sullyoon is at 47th. Why are they associating someone with no recognition with them?”
  • “Is Sullyoon really like that in person?”

Upon hearing this criticism, the NSWERs—the loyal fandom of NMIXX—defended Sullyoon, emphasizing the essence of what constitutes a visual troika.

  • “Isn’t this a term that simply refers to the most stunning idols, rather than their popularity rankings? Sullyoon is beautiful.”
  • “It’s merely a collective of the most visually appealing girls of that generation. Initially termed Jang-Yu-Sull (Wonyoung, Yuna, and Sullyoon), it’s now known as JangKaSull. Why bring her reputation into question? She’s being judged solely on her looks.”
