Since his previous rework, Swain has found himself in an unusual position within the game. His limited range and lack of mobility make it challenging for him to contend with agile champions, while he can become nearly unkillable during tank-centric metas when equipped with the appropriate items.

His gameplay is often described as feast or famine due to his short attack range; if he can’t close the gap, he becomes easy to kite. Consequently, he’s seen minimal usage in high-tier matches and has been absent from major tournaments like Worlds 2024.

The upcoming rework emphasizes this unstable playstyle, enhancing his power and effectiveness in close-range encounters while reducing his poke and sustain capabilities. Ultimately, while this will be a boon for the champion, it won’t elevate him to a universally strong status.

Swain’s rework shifts his focus from high healing and persistency toward more damage and burst potential. He’ll now be significantly rewarded for getting up close and effectively landing his skills but will face substantial penalties should he miss.

Despite maintaining the same abilities on paper, their functionalities in gameplay will be vastly different.

Base Stats:

  • Base mana reduced from: 468 to 400
  • Mana regeneration increased from: 8 to 10

Passive: Ravenous Flock

  • Healing reduced from: 3-6% max HP (levels 1/6/11/16) to 2-5% max HP (levels 1-18)

Q: Death’s Hand

  • AP ratio increased from: 40% to 45%
  • Bonus damage per bolt reduced from: 15-55 to 15-40
  • Bonus AP ratio per bolt increased from: 10% to 11.25%

W: Vision of Empire

  • Base damage reduced from: 80/115/150/185/220 to 70/105/140/175/210
  • AP scaling increased from: 55% to 60%
  • Slow duration decreased from: 2.5 seconds to 1.5 seconds
  • Slow strength increased from: 25/35/45/55/65% to 50/55/60/65/70%
  • Reveal duration adjusted from: 4-8 seconds to 6 seconds

E: Nevermore

  • Outgoing damage has been removed
  • Explosion base damage increased from: 35-75 to 80-240
  • Explosion AP ratio raised from: 25% to 60%
  • Cooldown increased from: 10 seconds to 14-10 seconds
  • Mana cost increased from: 50 to 60-80
  • Hitbox size enlarged from: 85 units to 95 units
  • Outgoing missile speed reduced
  • Return missile speed increased

R: Demonic Ascension

  • Base damage reduced from: 20-60 to 15-35
  • AP ratio decreased from: 10% to 5%
  • Base heal increased from: 15-40 to 15-45
  • Heal AP ratio decreased from: 18% to 5%
  • Heal now scales with 1% bonus HP
  • Cooldown increased from: 100-60 to 120 seconds
  • R2 can now be recast with a 10-second cooldown
  • R2 AP ratio reduced from: 60% to 50%
  • R2 base damage increased from: 150-300 to 150-350
  • R2 slow increased from: 60% to 75%
