On July 25th, Director Lee Eung-bok sat down for an interview with TenAsia at a cafe located in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. During the interview, he discussed various stories behind the making of the Netflix original series “Sweet Home 3.”
When asked about the amount of screen time given to Song Kang and Lee Do-hyun, director Lee Eung-bok replied, “I made sure to give them the maximum amount. My intention was to accurately portray their presence rather than exaggerate it.”
During the airing of the “Sweet Home”series, Song Kang and Lee Do-hyun transformed from new actors to popular stars. The director of the series, Lee Eung-bok, expressed his thoughts on this, stating that it felt like reuniting with old friends in season 3 after witnessing their growth. He also praised them for their maturity and coolness, especially in their roles as the darkened Hyun-soo and rookie star Lee Do-hyun. Seeing them evolve and become even better was a delight for the director.
He remarked, “Their approach to the play has also shifted. They were able to fully embody their characters, even without my direction. I believe this is a unique combination that cannot be found in any other production.”
While working on “Sweet Home 3,” Lee was also simultaneously filming “Exhuma,” “The Good Bad Mother,” and “Death’s Game.” When questioned about the challenges of managing his busy schedule, director Lee Eung-bok explained, “We had to coordinate everything carefully due to the high demand for his talents. However, it was executed smoothly and efficiently. Despite having multiple projects, Lee’s ability to stay in sync with each one was exceptional and allowed him to film without any difficulties.”
