Microsoft and Google are eager to incorporate their new artificial intelligence chatbots into as many applications and services as possible. Microsoft’s Bing Talk AI is already available in apps such as Edge and Skype, and it is soon coming to SwiftKey.
SwiftKey is a virtual keyboard for iOS and Android that Microsoft acquired in 2016. It already integrates with services such as Microsoft To Do, so it’s not surprising that Bing Chat is making an appearance. The latest beta editions of the Android app have a Bing button in the keyboard’s toolbar, which opens a text field for providing a prompt. In addition, the view extends into a full-size popup with the standard Bing Talk interface.
Microsoft CTO Pedram Rezaei stated on Twitter that the AI helper is “slowly trickling out,” but there’s no word on when the iOS version will get the same feature. On Apple devices, the Bing app is still the easiest way to access Bing Talk.
Microsoft said in September 2022 that SwiftKey for iPhone and iPad would be discontinued, but the decision was reversed in November owing to “popular demand.” The Android version has been actively developed throughout, and some of SwiftKey’s technology continues to power the virtual keyboard for Windows 10 and 11.
