SWORD’s reappearance in One Piece could be setting up a Marine Civil War

On June 17, 2024, the highly anticipated release of One Piece chapter 1117 finally arrived. Fans were thrilled to see the SWORD members working on Vegapunk’s speech, but their reactions seemed a bit off. It had been a long time since fans had seen the SWORD members, adding to the intrigue.

The main focus of the chapter was on the clash between Roronoa Zoro and Saint Nusjuro, as well as the revelation that the Gorosei possess the third Kitetsu sword. Additionally, the Straw Hats have begun their escape from Egghead Island.

During the conversation amongst the SWORD members, it became apparent that Vegapunk’s speech foreshadowed the beginning of the Civil War within the Marine Corps, as evidenced by the reactions of both Akainu and Sengoku.

Despite being alluded to multiple times in the previous chapter, the reactions of Koby and his teammates in this instance seem to confirm the existence of this “civil war”for the first time.

Please note: This article includes potential spoilers from the One Piece manga series and reflects the author’s personal opinions.

The latest installment of One Piece, chapter 1117, began by reintroducing the SWORD members who had previously appeared when they rescued Captain Koby from the Blackbeard Pirates on Hachinose Island.

Following their intense battle against the Yonko Pirates, the SWORD members were being treated at the GS Navy General Hospital for their injuries. While most of the members only sustained minor injuries, X Drake and Koby were the only ones who required extensive bandaging due to their more serious injuries.

X Drake was confined to his room, absorbed in Vegapunk’s speech while Koby and the rest of the organization stood outside, uncertain about their next steps after being overwhelmed by the information disclosed by Vegapunk.

Amidst everything happening, Koby inquired with Prince about potential changes that may occur going forward. Prince confirmed that they would receive difficult instructions from their superiors. Rear Admiral Kujaku also emphasized the need for them to take action.

Surprisingly, the conversation between the members of SWORD quickly spread throughout the town, and with good reason. It foreshadowed an imminent civil war within the Marine Corps.

Following Vegapunk’s speech, where the world’s submersion was revealed, fans began to speculate about a potential conflict within the Marine Corps, who were previously unaware of the situation.

Standing at the peak of the Red Line where water could not reach were the Celestial Dragons, the Five Elders, and Imu. This would inevitably lead to a rebellion within the Marine Corps.

In addition, the reactions of Sengoku and Akainu to Vegapunk’s speech further confirmed the impact of the genius scientist’s words in weakening the strongest organization under the World Government. However, all of these were mere speculations until the release of One Piece chapter 1117.

The chapter hinted at the beginning of a civil war within the Marine Corps. Despite this, the majority of SWORD members remain hidden from the Marine Corps, effectively serving the World Government.

Based on their statements, it seems highly probable that they will receive severe directives from their superiors in the upcoming episodes, possibly involving taking a stance in the ongoing civil war.

Prince briefly described this scenario, but it is possible that there is more to come given the reactions of the SWORD members.

To confirm further, continue to follow along until chapter 1118, the next chapter.
