T1 Faces Elimination Risk from Worlds 2024 After Defeat by Leading LCK Teams

T1’s chances for Worlds 2024 are hanging by a thread after their recent defeat against DPlus KIA, despite being favored in the matchup. Another loss would mean they miss out on the prestigious international tournament.

The renowned LCK organization has faced a challenging journey to Worlds 2024, and T1’s performance in the LCK Summer Playoffs has not reflected their typical prowess. Entering the event on a three-game winning streak, with victories over OK BRION, BNK FearX, and Kwangdong Freecs, they suffered disappointments with consecutive losses.

In their matchup against HLE, T1 struggled significantly, only securing 25 kills across all three games and failing to penetrate their opponent’s base.

T1 has generally been in a slump, leading to frustrations among players and fans due to high expectations following their impressive Esports World Cup victory.

Following a heart-wrenching 2-3 loss to DPlus KIA, T1 faces the critical challenge of needing to win their next series to still have a shot at Worlds 2024.

Faker has felt the weight of T1’s expectations this year.

DPlus KIA, meanwhile, boasts star mid laner Showmaker and a Worlds-winning top laner in Kingen, but the rest of the roster features relatively inexperienced players. Although Aiming has an impressive performance record, jungler Lucid and support Moham are both new additions from DK’s LCK CL squad.

Despite this, DPlus KIA managed to unite at the last moment, with Moham joining the team only in August. This development bodes well for DK’s freshly assembled roster, but it marks a significant setback for T1.

Now, T1 will face the winner of the FearX vs. KT match to secure the final place at Worlds 2024. KT is favored in this matchup, but T1 has a historically strong record against them. However, KT features one of the most formidable rosters in the LCK, meaning a victory for T1 is far from guaranteed.

Even if T1 qualifies for the tournament, many questions will arise regarding their current form and the extent of their potential success at Worlds 2024.
