The dynamic between JYJ’s Jaejoong and 2PM’s Jun K and Taecyeon is delighting fans with nostalgic 2nd-generation vibes.
The 49th episode of JYJ Jaejoong’s YouTube series “Jaefriends”was broadcasted on Aug. 22nd, with a special appearance by 2PM’s Jun.K.
The gathering of the two 2nd-generation icons caught the viewers’ attention as they shared their amusing and relaxed stories about the past K-pop era.
During a reflection on their past interactions in the 2000s, Jaejoong, a former member of TVXQ, reminisced about the time he first met his juniors 2PM. His initial impression of them was how physically imposing and tall the members appeared to be.
In case you were unaware, 2PM has gained a reputation for its members being some of the most physically attractive idols due to their tall stature and well-built bodies.
Jaejoong also revealed that as a result, TVXQ was under pressure to work out and develop their physiques before doing pictorials for a men’s magazine, as their juniors had set a strong precedent by doing so first.
Upon hearing this, Jun.K disclosed that he had not always possessed a muscular physique.
“I’m not such a big person, you know? The ‘beast idol’ thing doesn’t really suit my personality. Somehow, just hanging out with these bigger guys, I ended up looking big, too. Since I looked bigger with them.”
Despite this, Jaejoong brought attention to the shift in K-pop culture where formerly admired muscular idols are no longer considered as “cool.”
“These days, it’s not that cool anymore.”
Jun.K brought up Ok Taecyeon and without much thought, proceeded to tease his fellow member.
“Hm~ OK TAECYEON? You’re subtly criticizing TAECYEON now, aren’t you? You’re saying TAECYEON is too big, aren’t you?”
Taecyeon, a member of 2PM, is renowned for his muscular build. His enlistment in the military caused him to go viral as his already impressive physique continued to grow. The idol-actor received widespread acclaim for his social media posts in military uniform. As a result, he earned the nickname “Captain Korea”after relinquishing his American citizenship to serve his home country of South Korea.
Jaejoong, who was amazed by Taecyeon’s physique, expressed his frustration about how he seemed to effortlessly maintain it without strict dieting. He reminisced about the time they dined together and he saw Taecyeon enjoying all kinds of food without any restrictions.
Jaejoong remarked:
“I recently met TAECYEON at a Gopchang restaurant. But eating gopchang means…”
Jun.K went on:
“He’s not watching his diet!”
Kim responded with great interest and included:
“Exactly! Eating comfortably means he’s more relaxed about food. It was really nice to see.”
This exchange became even more endearing when Taecyeon indirectly responded to the two, admitting that he is no longer as cool as he used to be.
On Instagram, he showed his appreciation for Jaejoong’s post about the episode by leaving a comment that said:
“My ear was a bit itchy, kekeke.”
Upon receiving the response, Jaejoong managed to save himself by replying,
“cool Taecyeonni~”
Upon its circulation on X, the interaction between the three caused a frenzy among Cassiopeas (Jaejoong fans) and HOTTEST (2PM fandom). They were greatly entertained by the playful exchange and the ease with which they threw shade at Ok Taecyeon, solidifying the unbreakable bond between idols during that time.
