On August 28, SM Entertainment issued an official statement announcing Taeil’s departure from NCT. The agency revealed that Taeil was involved in a criminal case related to a sexual crime, which led to his decision to leave the group after thorough discussions.

SM Entertainment stated that Taeil is fully cooperating with the police investigation and promised to release more information about the ongoing case. The agency also expressed remorse for the upsetting news.

After the news broke, Korean media initially spread the story that Taeil’s case was linked to a sexual crime involving a minor of the same gender. The reports quickly caught the attention of the Bangbae Police Station, the department in charge of investigating the case. However, the precinct has refuted these allegations.

“The investigation is unrelated to any sexual crimes against minors of the same gender. Lee In Chun, the Youth and Women’s Division Director of Bangbae Police Station, stated, “I am currently working from home and will review the information on the server tomorrow (August 29th).”

During the ongoing criminal investigation, a separate incident began gaining attention on the internet. On August 29, the posts of Instagram user @agnes_121430 about Taeil became widely shared on social media.

According to online sources, the user accused Taeil of several serious offenses including sexual assault, blackmail, threats to harm her hospitalized mother, hacking, and secretly recording her for six years. Netizens showed their support and sympathy for the victim.

Taeil bore the brunt of the backlash, as fans expressed their condemnation towards the idol for the criminal allegations against him.
