After the announcement of Taeil’s withdrawal from NCT by SM Entertainment.
The Bangbae Police Station also made public its stance.
On Aug. 28, the K-pop community was taken aback by the sudden announcement of Taeil’s departure from NCT following allegations of sexual misconduct.
The statement released by SM, as officially stated by the label, read as follows:
“We were recently notified that Taeil was sued for a criminal case related to a sexual crime.
While looking into the facts related to the matter, we realized that it was very serious and determined that he could no longer continue his team activities.
After discussing it with Taeil, we decided on his withdrawal from the team.
Taeil is currently cooperating faithfully with the police investigation. We will provide further information as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologize for the concern and distress caused by our artist.”

Despite still being under SM as an artist, Taeil’s future remains uncertain until the police investigation concludes.
The NCT member became a part of the group in 2016 and participated in NCT U and NCT 127 sub-units before officially leaving.
Despite not specifying the cause of his removal, SM may have been removed due to a sexual offense against a minor of the same sex, according to initial reports cited by news sources.
The Bangbae Police Station, currently in charge of Taeil’s case, responded to this by refuting the claims and issuing an initial statement:
“This investigation is not related to an investigation into sexual crimes against minors of the same gender.”
As the director of the youth and women’s division at the Bangbae Police Station, Lee In Chun also stated:
“I am currently at home after leaving work. I will look into the certain information uploaded into the server tomorrow (Aug. 29th).”
After hearing this news, K-pop fans both in Korea and internationally were filled with shock. Only a month ago, the fandom rejoiced over the launch of NCT 127’s 6th album, “WALK,”which was made even more significant by Taeil’s involvement following his motorcycle accident the previous year.
In August 2023, he sustained injuries while riding his motorbike after being hit by a car that ran a red light. His right thigh was fractured and he had to undergo surgery.
As a result, he decided to temporarily halt his involvement and refrain from joining NCT 127’s world tour, which commenced in November.
Despite the recent sexual offense scandal, NCTzens were still thrilled to see Taeil attend NCT 127’s 8th debut anniversary fan meeting on Aug. 3rd and 4th, which took place just 3 weeks ago.
