Taeyeon Shares Insights on Feeling Misunderstood and Navigating Life During Friends’ Marriages

Taeyeon Reflects on Her ‘Homebody’ Lifestyle and Identity Struggles in Recent YouTube Appearance

On November 20, K-pop sensation Taeyeon made an engaging guest appearance alongside SHINee’s Key on the popular YouTube channel “Naraesik,”offering fans an intimate glimpse into her life and thoughts.

Embracing the Homebody Life

Known for her preference for a quieter lifestyle, Taeyeon shared, “I don’t do anything at home. My life is seriously boring. I wake up at 7 a.m. really just to rest. I order delivery food, enjoy coffee, and gaze outside.”Her candid admission highlighted her contrasting public persona and private life.

Host Park Na-rae humorously remarked, “It sounds like you’re at a retirement home,” prompting Taeyeon to reflect, “Sometimes, I wonder whether I led a hectic life in my twenties only to end up like this.” Despite her laid-back image, Taeyeon expressed a desire for deeper connections, stating, “People think that since I’m a homebody, I don’t enjoy drinking or socializing. However, I truly love being around other people. I miss them and actively seek their company.”

A Life of Solitude While Abroad

During the conversation, Taeyeon revealed that her routine remains largely unchanged even when she travels abroad for performances; she usually finds herself confined to her hotel room. She lamented, “I’ve yet to encounter anyone who can coax me out of that comfort zone, not even my staff. It’s a misconception that follows me often.”This insight sheds light on the challenges of balancing celebrity status with personal needs.

The Dichotomy of Idol Life and Personal Identity

As the discussion deepened, Park Na-rae posed a thought-provoking question about the expectations surrounding idols, saying, “They say, ‘Once an idol, always an idol.’ Does that mean you must continue living as an idol?” Taeyeon acknowledged her internal struggle with this concept, sharing, “I’ve been reflecting on this a lot. I find myself confused between being Taeyeon the person and Taeyeon the idol. Now in my mid-thirties, while friends are marrying and starting families, is this not a transitional phase in life?”

Key offered a supportive perspective, stating, “We’ve entered a new era. It’s crucial to not let down those who support us. As long as we focus on presenting our best selves, we will be alright.”

The Loyalty of Fans

Taeyeon concurred with Key, emphasizing, “We have been showered with love from our fans, which I view as a form of loyalty. Sustaining that loyalty is essential for building lasting relationships with our supporters.” This sentiment reinforces the foundation of trust and admiration that fans have for their idols.

A Sweet Indulgence

As the guests wrapped up their conversation, they decided to indulge in some frozen yogurt. Taeyeon playfully recounted a previous experience where she ordered three servings and polished them off in one sitting, amusingly noting, “I thought it would be a guilt-free meal, but I ended up gaining three kilograms! I haven’t eaten it since then, yet today, I’ll treat myself,” she laughed.
