Tattoo artist’s warning about convention’s hand wash station

The handwash station at an anime convention was found to have a major issue by a tattoo artist, causing them to go viral on TikTok.

Jazzy J (jazzyjtattoos), a TikToker and tattoo artist, used her platform to address the inadequate handwashing station at a recent anime tattoo convention.

The station that she captured on film consisted of a significantly-sized water bottle with a broken nozzle, a soap dispenser secured to the table using duct tape, and a loosely attached roll of paper towels.

In the caption of her now-deleted video, which received over 639,000 views, Jazzy J asked, “Were the mobile hand washing stations not accessible?”

The event featured in the video seemed to be Mega Show’s Anime Nation Fest, a combination of anime and tattooing for a multi-day gathering at the LA Convention Centre. It was recently criticized by various TikTokers, including ayime.co, for being the “worst”anime convention ever.

Jazzy J expanded on the significance of providing adequate hand-washing stations for tattoo artists in the comments section of her video.

“In her note, she mentioned that the bathrooms were located on the opposite end of the hall. As a tattoo artist, she emphasized the importance of having convenient access to a handwashing station due to the constant need to wash our hands. She also questioned how the health department overlooked this issue.”

The hand wash station at the event received criticism from TikTok users in the comments, with many expressing disbelief at its poor condition. This was particularly surprising given the event’s promotion heavily emphasized the importance of tattooing. One individual commented, “I can’t believe this is happening in California, where there are stricter laws for tattooing.”

“Some people were questioning the hygiene practices of the tattoo parlor, saying it should be the top priority. Others wondered why the parlor did not invest in a hand washing station, suggesting they could have easily rented one from a nearby carnival.”

As of now, Mega Show has still not recognized or addressed the criticisms.
