Taylor Kitsch Faces Unexpected Challenge While Horse Riding in American Primeval

In the world of Western narratives, American Primeval stands out by placing its talented cast firmly in the saddle. For star Taylor Kitsch, however, riding horseback presented unexpected hurdles that might surprise audiences.

Kitsch, known for his work in Friday Night Lights, takes on the role of Isaac, a man tasked with guiding mother Sara, portrayed by Betty Gilpin, and her son Devin, played by Preston Mota, through the daunting landscapes of 1857 America. Despite Kitsch’s familiarity with physically demanding roles, American Primeval introduced a unique set of challenges that tested his capabilities.

Challenges Faced by Taylor Kitsch While Horseback Riding

In a candid conversation with the New York Post, Kitsch revealed that navigating horseback riding was a struggle in itself. This difficulty was compounded by an unfortunate injury he sustained during filming.

The actor disclosed that he broke his foot while working on the series, saying, “I was in a boot for a lot of the show.” This injury inevitably added a layer of complexity every time he mounted a horse. Kitsch explained the tough reality of filming under these conditions:

“When I would stop the horse, my wrangler – the guy who takes care of the horses – would help me down off camera, because I just couldn’t put much pressure on my foot. And, when you have these horses and you’re in a couple of feet of snow, anything can f–king happen.”

The unpredictable nature of the horses made filming even more challenging. Kitsch shared, “Sometimes you see them in the morning and they’re great, and then… you come back, and they’re just over it and they don’t want to do anything.”
