Taylor Sheridan fans have reason to celebrate as the second season of his underappreciated Paramount Plus series, Lioness, has officially been confirmed.
The network has announced that Lioness Season 2 is confirmed, and all main cast members, including Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Michael Kelly, and Nicole Kidman, will be returning for the upcoming episodes.
Currently, the number of episodes for the second series and the plot of Season 2 remain unknown. However, significant changes are expected. Morgan Freeman will also be reprising his role as Edwin Mullins, but this time as a lead character instead of a supporting one.
In a statement, Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President of Programming at Paramount+, expressed that the captivating global narrative and stellar performances by Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, and Nicole Kidman have united and garnered strong support from our audience on Paramount+.
“Our anticipation for the heart-stopping suspense and action in its second season, delivered by Taylor Sheridan and the immensely talented team, is growing.”
“As one of last year’s most-viewed series premieres on Paramount+, Lioness captured audiences worldwide,”said Chris McCarthy, who serves as President and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and also heads the Office of the CEO at Paramount Global.
“With Taylor Sheridan’s unparalleled storytelling skills and the incredible performances of Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña, Season 2 guarantees to captivate viewers with yet another thrilling and heart-pumping adventure.”
Despite being highly praised, Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness is often overlooked, only receiving a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, given Sheridan’s current workload, it is unlikely that Lioness will be a top priority in the coming year.
In addition to Season 2 of 1923 commencing filming later this year, new installments of the highly popular show Yellowstone are also still scheduled to premiere this November. A release date for Lioness’ next chapter has not been officially announced.
Lioness is based on a real-life US Military program and depicts the story of Joe (Saldaña) as she strives to find a balance between her personal and professional responsibilities as a crucial member of the CIA’s efforts in the war on terror.
