A soon-to-be-released documentary will delve into the ongoing conflict between Taylor Swift and record executive Scooter Braun that has spanned several years.
Once again, audiences will be given an in-depth look into one of the most well-known feuds in Swift’s career as a new documentary will shed light on her turbulent relationship with Braun.
Warner Bros. Discovery U.K. and Ireland is scheduled to release a two-episode documentary, currently titled “Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Bad Blood,”next month. The film will provide an in-depth look at both sides of the feud and offer insider knowledge about the music industry.
The central focus of the documentary will revolve around Braun’s acquisition of Swift’s master recordings in 2019, following his purchase of Big Machine Label Group, the record label responsible for Swift’s first six albums.
At the time, Swift wrote a lengthy post on Tumblr expressing her disapproval of the sale and criticizing Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta for allowing Braun to acquire her work despite their contentious history.
“Upon entrusting my masters to Scott, I accepted the likelihood that they would eventually be sold. However, I never could have imagined that Scooter would be the buyer. Whenever I mentioned “Scooter Braun”to Scott Borchetta, it was during moments of distress. He was well aware of their actions and intentions – to control and associate a reluctant woman with them indefinitely.”
Despite experiencing this setback, Swift managed to secure the rights to re-record her initial six albums since she maintained the copyright for both the music and lyrics. This grants her the ability to utilize these components from the original recordings to produce new versions that she solely owns.
Currently, Swift has already released Taylor’s versions of Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989. This means that the only two remaining albums for her to record are Taylor Swift and Reputation.
During an interview with NPR in 2022, Braun discussed his perspective on the feud and stated that he was enthusiastic about collaborating with all artists on the label when he purchased Big Machine. However, Swift’s remarks dampened that excitement.
Braun explained, “I made four phone calls [before I could reach the artists] and as soon as I began to make those calls, chaos ensued. It seems that a lot of things were misunderstood. In my experience, when there is a disagreement, it is difficult to find a resolution without sitting down and talking it out.”
Braun expressed remorse that his only regret regarding the deal was his assumption that all of Big Machine’s artists would be open to having a conversation with him, understanding his intentions and character, and agreeing to do business together. He acknowledged that he had made this assumption with individuals whom he was not familiar with, and stated that he would learn from this experience and move forward.
WBD U.K.’s “vs.”series will soon be adding Bad Blood, joining the ranks of Johnny vs. Amber, which focuses on the trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and Kim vs. Kanye: The Divorce, which extensively covers the messy divorce of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
Charlotte Reid, the VP of commissioning for WBD U.K., shared the network’s reasoning for shining a spotlight on this specific story, saying, “This story has garnered a lot of attention and sparked discussions about fandom, making it a perfect fit for our viewers who are passionate about access-driven documentaries such as ‘vs’, a highly popular format on Discovery+.”
The highly anticipated premiere of Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Bad Blood is set for June 2024. In the meantime, make sure to catch the latest TV shows streaming this month and add some new movies to your watchlist.
