Teddy’s First Girl Group MEOVV Faces Challenges in Gaining Traction After Debut

Last month, on the 6th, MEOVV made their official debut with their first single, “MEOW.” They are the inaugural girl group from The Black Label, spearheaded by renowned producer Teddy. Teddy, celebrated for his work with iconic groups such as 2NE1 and BLACKPINK, has garnered significant attention for launching this fresh girl group.

Even before the revelation of their group name, MEOVV was surrounded by excitement. The fact that this girl group was created by Teddy, alongside being the first from his label, stirred considerable buzz, particularly among fans who speculated about the debut members based on practice room snapshots. K-pop enthusiasts were also keenly interested in the timing of their debut.

However, following their debut, MEOVV has struggled to maintain that initial interest. Their debut track, “MEOW,” was met with mixed reviews. Fans who anticipated a song that echoed BLACKPINK’s previous hits expressed disappointment.

Additionally, the music video did not effectively showcase the members’ unique charms. As a debut single, it required standout elements to attract attention, yet the camera work and the members’ choreography appeared static. Consequently, they missed a chance to draw in new fans through the music video.

Moreover, with many thriving 4th and 5th generation girl groups actively making their mark, MEOVV has found it challenging to distinguish themselves in the saturated girl group market.

Fortunately, there’s unanimous agreement regarding the members’ visuals. Their performances on live stages also demonstrated commendable skills. Despite their appealing looks and talents, it’s disheartening that they couldn’t generate more buzz. It remains to be seen if MEOVV can revitalize their image following their underwhelming debut activities.
