According to a video released by JTBC’s Newsroom on July 22nd, a teenage fan, A, was filming CRAVITY members at the airport when her phone was suddenly jostled. Private security guard B then asked her if she had pushed him, and when she denied it, he verbally abused her, calling her an “insane person.”
A, who had been pushed by the security guard, recounted to Newsroom, “I was terrified and immediately left the scene. When I got home, I felt pain in my head where I was struck…”She was later diagnosed with a concussion at the hospital and proceeded to file an assault complaint against the guard.
B clarified to JTBC, “I simply lifted A’s hand and had no intention of physically harming her.”
Amidst the growing controversy, Starship Entertainment, the agency of CRAVITY, issued a notice titled “Airport Security Incident Notice”on CRAVITY’s official fan cafe on July 22nd, expressing apologies for the incident.
The agency expressed their sincere apologies to the individuals and fans who were affected by the security guard’s misconduct on June 23rd at the airport, while they were carrying out their duties to protect the performing artist, CRAVITY, upon their return from their performances and promotions in Japan.
After becoming aware of the incident, the agency promptly ended their partnership with the security company responsible for CRAVITY’s on-site security. In order to prevent similar incidents from occurring and prioritize the safety of both fans and artists, the agency is implementing new security protocols and training procedures. The agency would like to once again express their sincerest apologies to the fans.
Lately, there has been a surge in occurrences of celebrities being subjected to unnecessary security measures.
On July 12th, it was reported that the security team of actor Byun Woo-seok had directed flashlights at passengers and blocked the airport gate, leading to an investigation launched by the police.
