Six K-pop girl groups made the cut for Teen Vogue’s “21 Best Girl Groups of All Time”list.
On May 20, 2024, Teen Vogue released their list of the “21 Best Girl Groups of All Time,”which featured girl groups from various eras. The chosen groups were recognized for their influential fashion and timeless music that transcends generational boundaries.
The global list mentioned six girl groups in total.
1. The Incredible Wonder Girls
Wonder Girls was acknowledged by Teen Vogue as one of the first trailblazers for K-pop’s worldwide success.
At the peak of their success, the girl group toured as the opening act for the Jonas Brothers. They made history in 2009 as the first Korean group to enter the Billboard Hot 100, thanks to their hit song “Nobody.”
K-Pop Group: TWICE
TWICE, the second K-pop girl group mentioned, captured hearts from their debut in 2015.
Despite evolving from their cutesy concept, TWICE has maintained their charm and now exude a more elegant and sophisticated aura. This growth over the years has not diminished the charm that initially captivated their audience.
2NE1
2NE1 is a highly self-assured K-pop girl group, boldly declaring themselves as the top group in their song, “I AM THE BEST.”
During their time as an active group, they achieved numerous milestones, including 2NE1 becoming the first K-pop girl group to embark on a world tour. While they officially disbanded in 2016, the members surprised fans by reuniting in 2022 for a special Coachella performance.
4. BLACKPINK
Blackpink was included in the list for being the epitome of a girl crush, due to their fearless and self-assured discography that elevated the K-pop genre to new heights.
The music video for their song “DDU-DU DD-DU”has been viewed over two billion times, making it the most-watched K-pop music video. Furthermore, each member has achieved individual success through their forays into the fashion and music industries.
5. Red Velvet
Red Velvet’s standout feature is their distinctive concept of incorporating both “red”and “velvet”sides in their music. This means that whether you prefer bubblegum pop or R&B, you will surely find something to enjoy with Red Velvet.
Since their debut in 2014, the SM Entertainment girl group has continued to captivate K-pop fans with their creative releases.
6. Girls’ Generation
The last K-pop girl group to be featured on Teen Vogue’s list is none other than the acclaimed Girls’ Generation, also known as THE Nation’s Girl Group!
After gaining fame in 2009, Girls’ Generation has continuously impressed with a strong discography. Although they took a break in 2017, the group regrouped in 2022 to commemorate their fifteenth anniversary.
