Teenage YouTuber Wesley Wang Makes History in Major Hollywood Film Studio Deal

At the age of 19, Wesley Wang has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the youngest person to be hired by a major studio to direct a feature-length film. This opportunity comes after his award-winning short film, ‘nothing, except everything’, caught the attention of producers and is now being adapted into a full-length movie.

At just 19 years old, Wesley Wang, a popular YouTuber and content creator, has become the youngest person to be signed by a major film studio to direct a feature-length project. The film, which is based on Wang’s short film ‘nothing, except everything’, marks a historic achievement for the young filmmaker.

Wang created his short film during his final year in high school. When he posted it on his YouTube channel in September 2024, the film titled ‘nothing, except everything’ became a sensation on the streaming platform. The project later won the Grand Jury Prize at the Indy Shorts Film Festival in Indianapolis.

Deadline reports that after a fierce competition, TriStar has secured the rights to Wesley Wang’s short film for adaptation. Despite four major studios vying for the project, TriStar successfully closed the deal. Wang will be both the writer and director for the big screen adaptation, with Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures signed on as the production company.

The official synopsis for the short film states: “A high school graduate learns to navigate a chaotic world by finding solace in the number 7.”

The entire short film can be watched either on Wang’s YouTube channel or below.

Despite being a significant achievement on its own, Wang’s recent appointment as the youngest director to be signed by a major film studio is only one of the many impressive milestones reached by the up-and-coming Hollywood sensation.

Wang, who is an 11-time national chess champion, is currently attending Harvard, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. In addition to his successful chess career, Wang has also produced several short films, including Faces, Eve, and Mute.

As of now, the feature film adaptation has no attached actors and there is no indication of the release date for the project.
