Tell Me Lies Showrunner Reveals Reason for Major Character’s Absence in Season 3

Tell Me Lies Showrunner Reveals Reason for Major Character’s Absence in Season 3

As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding Tell Me Lies Season 3, and if it is confirmed, one star’s return seems unlikely.

Unfortunately, fans shouldn’t anticipate a Tell Me Lies Episode 9, leaving us all in suspense following that shocking cliffhanger. What will Bree say to Lucy after learning of her encounter with Evan on her wedding day?

The Season 2 finale was quite intense (and distressing): Lucy and Stephen had a moment together, Leo brutally attacked Stephen, Marianne revealed the truth about her relationship, and Drew faced an uncertain fate.

While we are eager for a potential Tell Me Lies Season 3 to resolve unanswered questions, showrunner Meghan Oppenheimer has confirmed that one character will not be returning: Tom Ellis, known for portraying Oliver, Marianne’s partner.

In an interview with Variety, Oppenheimer addressed whether she anticipated Ellis reprising his role in a new season. “I don’t think so. I believe Tom only wanted to commit to one season. We concluded his storyline in a way that was satisfying for me,” she stated.

During the final episode of season two, Bree discovered that Oliver and Marianne had an open relationship. “You can’t treat me like an adult in the bedroom and then speak to me like a child,” she expressed, but the couple remained unfazed by her feelings, suggesting it’s time for her to move on.

“I’m not sure where we could take Oliver’s character from here. Perhaps we could see more of Marianne; her story still has much potential. However, it feels like Oliver is quite broken and empty by season’s end, so I believe it’s time for Bree to move past him,” Oppenheimer elaborated.

If a third season is in the works, viewers can expect to see a time shift with more episodes set in the present day. “In Season 3, we might still explore some 2008 elements, as there are remaining plotlines to resolve there,” the creator noted.

“However, I anticipate that there will be a greater emphasis on 2015 compared to 2008.”

All episodes of Tell Me Lies Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+. In the meantime, you can discover other captivating series to binge-watch and explore the latest TV shows that are streaming this month.
