Tencent, the Chinese powerhouse known for developing popular games like League of Legends through Riot Games and Fortnite via Epic Games, has unveiled its latest project titled Light of Motiram. However, early impressions from the gaming community suggest a striking resemblance to the acclaimed titles Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.
This new title is crafted by Tencent’s subsidiary, Polaris Quest, and features a narrative set in a world dominated by colossal machines. Players will embark on a journey to tame ‘Mechanimals,’ engaging in battles against towering bosses scattered across diverse landscapes, from lush tropical rainforests to arid deserts.

The visual aesthetics and the character design of Light of Motiram have stirred significant discussion. The protagonist is a young woman with striking red hair, reminiscent of Aloy, the hero from the Horizon series. This overt similarity has not gone unnoticed, with numerous players expressing their thoughts on social media.
Community Backlash and Comparisons to Horizon
Critics have voiced their concerns regarding the apparent imitation of Horizon’s artistic direction. One user, Terrelle Graham, questioned the investment rationale behind a game that appears to replicate visual elements from another title so closely. He tweeted:

In addition to community critiques, some analysts believe that the developers of the original Horizon games, Guerrilla Games, should consider legal avenues due to what is perceived as a “flagrant duplication”of their intellectual property.
Interestingly, Light of Motiram has drawn comparisons to Palworld, a game that faced similar criticisms for its resemblance to Pokémon initially. Nonetheless, Palworld was ultimately well-received as it successfully diversified from the traditional Pokémon gameplay model. Its developer, Pocketpair, is currently navigating ongoing legal challenges with Nintendo while also achieving substantial success across different platforms.
Currently, Light of Motiram does not have an announced release date, but it is set to launch exclusively for PC, available through both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
