TenZ Retires from Professional Valorant Play as Sentinels Superstar

TenZ has significantly influenced Valorant’s competitive landscape since its inception. His tenure with Sentinels has established him as one of the most prominent figures in the game, boasting millions of fans and multiple international titles. However, he has decided to retire from professional play.

TenZ cited his desire to enjoy life outside gaming and pursue other interests as reasons for stepping back from the demanding schedule that comes with being a professional player.

“I’ve known since the start of this year. I told myself, ‘This is my last year.’ It was definitely for me to give it my all and play without any regrets,” he explained.

“There’s just a lot of stuff that I wanna do outside of the game that I’m very ambitious about, stuff that I definitely needed more time in my own schedule to chase after.”

While TenZ has confirmed he will step away from the starting roster, he has not entirely ruled out the possibility of stepping in for Sentinels occasionally if necessary.

In a follow-up video, TenZ shared that he informed his teammates of his retirement just before Valorant Champions Seoul.

He mentioned that the decision felt like a “no-brainer” due to the success of his content outside of competitive play, and his teammates were supportive of his choice to step back.

TenZ has built a reputation as one of the top Duelist players ever in Valorant, often making pivotal matches appear lopsided in ranked play. Few players have achieved multiple 5Ks in competitive settings like he has.

Toward the latter part of his career, TenZ transitioned roles, playing Agents such as Omen and Gekko while focusing on team-oriented strategies. This was a notable shift from his earlier preference for Duelists like Reyna and Jett, which helped him secure his first international title in 2021. The role change proved beneficial, culminating in Sentinels claiming their second international title this year.

Currently, TenZ holds the distinction of being the only North American player to have two international victories, concluding his career at the peak of success.
