However, when will it be released? While Schwarzenegger is not currently involved, there is still plenty to look forward to.

The production was announced in February 2021, so we have been anticipating it for several years. Quality takes time, and a specific date was not confirmed until May 2024. Now, we just need to refresh our knowledge of everything Skynet before watching.

Who’s working on it?

Production IG and Skydance Television are collaborating to create Terminator Zero. Production IG has a notable reputation for producing popular anime series such as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Haikyuu!!. The director, Masashi Kudō, known for his work on Bleach and Tower of God, will be leading the project.

Mattson Tomlin, who is the co-writer for The Batman 2, is not only the showrunner but also the executive producer. Therefore, audiences can anticipate a perfect blend of anime and western concepts. The role of the Terminator in this version will be voiced by Timothy Olyphant, known for his performances in Justified, Deadwood, and other productions.

The current cast for Terminator Zero includes:

  • The Terminator – Timothy Olyphant
  • Malcolm Lee – Andre Holland
  • Eiko – Sonoya Mizuno
  • Kokoro – Rosario Dawson
  • The Prophet – Ann Dowd

Terminator Zero trailer

The gnarly official trailer for Terminator Zero was unveiled in July 2024, featuring Olyphant’s cybernetic killing machine on a time-traveling crusade at the forefront.

The video showcases the show as a beautifully apocalyptic addition to the well-known franchise, with a variety of robots, espionage, and advanced technology. In a franchise known for its impressive visuals, Terminator Zero is already surpassing expectations with its stunning imagery.

What will happen in Terminator Zero?

In Terminator Zero, we follow the assassin who shares the same name as the title and is sent back in time to eliminate Malcolm Lee, a scientist developing a competitor to Skynet in 1997. Naturally, a protector from 2022 is in pursuit, attempting to thwart the Terminator’s mission.

Despite being from a rival AI company, Malcolm’s family is currently facing threats. Based on the footage we have seen, it appears that there are multiple factors contributing to the situation. It is likely that there are some questionable dealings between Malcolm’s company and Skynet, as they are corporate competitors.

A clock looms above, ticking steadily towards Judgment Day. Sarah and John Connor were able to avert it once. Can these individuals achieve the same outcome?

Where does it fit in the timeline?

Terminator Zero is set before Judgment Day, making the events fall between the first two films in the franchise. This means that Zero takes place between The Terminator and T2: Judgment Day.

Since the release of the second movie in 1991, Terminator has consistently played fast and loose with its own timeline. Three director sequels have been released since T2, each presenting a different version of events following the conclusion of the film.

Therefore, we must patiently wait to see where Zero will eventually fall, but the space between the first two films seems to be the most suitable place.
