Terrifier 3 Director Reveals Secrets Behind the Most Shocking Kill in the Horror Sequel

Terrifier 3 is set to hit theaters next week, and we’ve got the insider information on how the horror sequel captured its most shocking scene.

The Terrifier franchise is renowned for its graphic kills, making it challenging to pick the best ones when we ranked the most memorable deaths in the series.

With Terrifier 3, there is immense pressure to escalate the gruesome visuals even further. After witnessing the film’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest, we can confirm that the threequel boldly pushes boundaries regarding taste and decency.

Arguably the most shocking scene features a shower segment, which we highlighted in our Terrifier 3 review: “The murder that’ll be the talk of fans – particularly dedicated followers of the franchise – unfolds in a bathroom where two young lovers are enjoying a shower. Art the Clown makes his entrance, leading to the most extreme kill yet in the Terrifier saga; a drawn-out double murder that pays homage to the franchise’s iconic kill in the first movie while simultaneously surpassing everything that has come before it. Psycho be warned – this new shower scene is one to remember.”

During a post-screening Q&A at Fantastic Fest, writer-director Damien Leone shared insights on crafting this sequence, stating: “We filmed it for about five days initially. Then we returned for an extra three days. Those effects can be incredibly time-consuming; you could easily spend an entire day just trying to get a realistic arm severed. That segment required a lot of time and effort.”

Leone also talked about the pressures of surpassing previous kills for the sequel, mentioning: “Each new film has to top the previous standout scenes, like the bedroom kill from Terrifier 2 and the hacksaw kill from Terrifier 1. So, there was a great deal of planning involved in that.”

“As is typical with almost every kill scene, we film it and feel dissatisfied, requiring us to return for an additional month or two to perfect the effects, followed by shooting several inserts. Particularly for the intense scenes where Art is viciously cutting [name redacted to avoid spoilers] – we devoted considerable time to refine those effects.”

Terrifier 3 will be released on October 11. Until then, check out star Samantha Scaffidi discussing her favorite kill in Terrifier 3, along with updates on future projects for the actor behind Art the Clown.
