Tesla Cybertruck goes viral after powering gas station in Houston tornado

A video of a Tesla Cybertruck has gained popularity on TikTok, as it shows the truck powering a gas station in Houston after a tornado caused a power outage.

Last week, the Houston area was hit with a series of strong thunderstorms, causing power outages for more than one million customers in southeast Texas.

On May 18, a video was shared by TikTok user Misbaah (misssbaaah) featuring a gas station in Houston, Texas. The clip, which has since gained widespread attention with over 1.4 million views, showcases a Tesla Cybertruck providing power to the gas station following a tornado in Houston.

Even though the power was out in that area, the pumps were still functioning. The person recording the video can be heard saying, “The cash machine is working, the pumps are still working,”as they make their way through the dimly lit store.

The camera operator continues to film the rear entrance of the gas station, capturing footage of extension cords connected to a Cybertruck. The content creator remarks, “We’re powering it with this beast right here. Just a simple plug.”

Despite some TikTok users being impressed, several argued that it would be impossible for a Cybertruck to support an entire store. “It’s highly unlikely that the truck could handle that station, maybe just the lights,”one critic pointed out.

“They are simply performing the basic functions of a store. If you believe that the pumps are powered by a standard wall outlet, then you may not understand the mechanics of electric motors or the amount of power they require,”another person clarified.

Some people believed that the duration of the situation would be short-lived. “Maybe for around 20 minutes,”one individual guessed. “He can sustain the gas station for 30 minutes, but what happens after that? He won’t be able to charge it without electricity,”another person added.

One person stated, “My F150 Powerboost also has a built-in 7.2kW genny that can accomplish the same thing.”They explained that they learned about this feature during a Texas storm a few years ago and decided to purchase it. They now use it to power their travel trailer in a quiet manner.

This is not the initial instance where a Cybertruck has gained widespread attention on TikTok. In the past, a Tesla driver caused confusion among viewers when he inadvertently damaged his truck while attempting to put it through an automated carwash.
